Make a Weeknight Meal Special

January 29, 2012COMtnMom

I signed up to participate in a “weeknight meal special”, but didn’t know at first what the company would be.  I just knew I would be preparing a new kind of hearty meal soup for dinner, and would then needed to let my readers know how it went.

But once I found out it was Bertolli brand, and that it was found in the freezer section – I was excited, because we have previously tried their pasta meals (also in the freezer section) and they are delicious!  So this would be my introduction to their new line of Meal Soup products.

They told me it would be easy to prepare.  It was.  But it wasn’t easy to select which flavor to purchase, because they all sounded really good!  Available flavors:

  • Chicken Minestrone
  • Roasted Chicken and Rotini Pasta
  • Tomato Florentine & Tortellini with Chicken
  • Tuscan-style Beef & Vegetables

I chose the Tomato Florentine & Tortellini with Chicken, in a tomato bisque.  They had me at cheese tortellini.  I couldn’t get past it.  And it was a great choice!

We were supposed to create a “special evening”.  In my world of being a blogger mom who works full time outside of the home and has two small kids … if I can get a tasty meal on the table with little to no effort, that everyone enjoys … that’s a special evening indeed!  And by that definition, it was a true success.

I grabbed a tube of frozen breadsticks at the grocery store at the same time I purchased my Bertolli soup.  They were a nice side addition.

I am generally not a big soup eater, and wasn’t convinced that this would truly prove to be an entire meal?  But it really was!  One package would serve two adults, so you would need to gauge your purchase accordingly.

Frozen ingredients right out of the package.

Ten minutes and a little heat later – a very yummy pot of soup!

My entire meal took about 15 minutes total to prepare.  It doesn’t feel quite accurate to call this “soup” – it was creamy, thick, and hearty.  With the tortellini, spinach, and chicken ingredients, it made for a delicious and satisfying meal.

So here’s the Golden Question:  After performing this initial review – do I personally plan to purchase this product, with my own money, to feed my family?  Yes, I do.  So that’s why I feel good about recommending it to your family, too.

I was compensated by Bertolli to participate in the Weeknight Meal Special Challenge..  However, the opinions in this article are my own.

Yum, I picked this soup too and breadsticks would be awesome with it! I agree with you, any meal that requires little effort is a special meal! 🙂

Love the idea of breadsticks! I was also surprised at how much soup was really in that package. We added bread and salad, so we had enough soup leftover for me to have more for lunch the next day.

I love your "Golden Question". It's true – everyone likes something they get for free, but it's the true test if you purchase it again after trying that free sample!

I made Minestrone for our challenge because we created an Italian "Ristorante" at home, but the Tomato Florentine is my favorite – yummy!

Just looking at it again makes me want to go get another package. It was just so good! Too funny that we both had breadsticks like that, but great minds…. 🙂
