EPCOT World Showcase drums for kids

Disney World ~ The Outpost in Epcot

August 28, 2012COMtnMom

This week’s Disney Wordless Wednesday theme is:  Brought to You by the Disney Letter “D”

One rainy day in EPCOT, we rented a stroller for our weary 5 year old and decided to take a more relaxed pace, and just “experience” a bit.

If you work your way around EPCOT’s World Showcase by heading left (clockwise), you’ll pass by a rather large, country-less gap – between China and Germany.  This area is known as The Outpost.  It was originally intended to be a place holder for a future, multiple country representation called Equatorial Africa.

Hence, brought to you by the Disney Letter “D” – it’s drums On that particular rainy day … this was a definite highlight for my daughter.

Ok, and for my husband.  (He’s Got The Beat…)

EPCOT World Showcase drums

Ok, and for me.  It was pretty fun.

The Outback includes this fun, play-it-yourself African Drum area for young and old alike to enjoy.  But you will also find a nice seating area, a refreshment stand, and a few souvenir shops offering authentic African wares.  Oftentimes, you can even catch the artists at work, demonstrating their craft.

For an interesting read on the history of why “Equatorial Africa” never came to fruition, along with some great pictures and description of the Outpost area, check out this cool post on the AllEars site.

I’ll be using this as a Disney blog post entry for a contest being held by BodyLogicMD through September – with a 2 night/3 day at Disney World prize.  🙂

My kids – even as teens – still feel the need to stop and play the drums. Or one of those rain sticks. Or some other variety of noise maker there in Africa!

I made a autograph book that has picterus of me posing with Disney characters over the years, the youngest one of me is when I was 3 years old, every year I put a new piece of paper down so they can sign their names when I went to Disney last month I met Mickey, Goofy, and Aladdin(and other Disney characters), when I saw Mickey he pointed at the first picture ever that I took with him and we spend what felt like 5 minutes just looking at picterus, lol best Disney memory ever!

The lure of playing the African drums gets us each time. I also enjoy watching the wood carver. It’s such a nice spot to relax. Thanks for sharing and for joining in on the Disney WW blog hop fun today.

Oh yeah we can’t walk past these drums. Our son always has to spent a few minutes getting down :). Thanks for sharing!

Oh, I forgot about these! We’ve only been to Epcot once (though we are going again soon!) but we did end up stopping at these. We may have just passed by them if my husband hadn’t left something in one of the shops and had to run back. I’m glad he did because my daughter had a blast with them!

You’re daughter looks D-lighted! Never slowed down enough to play, maybe this trip.

In looking at your photos I must admit that I have a tear in my eye- these drums were my ASD son’s FAVORITE spot in Epcot for so many years, and we just left him at his college dorm! Thanks for picking such a cherished “D”.

My kids would love it if I’d just walk past the drums, but it’s not going to happen. I have to stop and relive my dream of being a drummer in a rock band (although I think those would be slightly different drums).

Great post! We always take a break at the table in the Outpost. Mostly because we usually have a snack to devour. 🙂

Adorable pictures! We’ve only been to EPCOT once and I don’t even remember having any pictures of this area. Thanks for the great read on it! I think this would have been a definite stop too.

We stop at the Outpost frequently for drum beatin’ and root beers! I didn’t know all this background info about it. Now I do…and I thank you for it! 🙂
