Healthy on the go Snack Roundup

Yeeehawww!  It’s time for a snack roundup!  I know many of my readers live active, busy family lives and like myself are always on the lookout for healthy on-the-go snacks.  This past few weeks I’ve conducted a roundup of some great options, and am ready to pass along these tasty, healthy ingredient product ideas to you.

Healthy, On-The-Go Snacks Roundup

Sometimes we get in a food rut around my house, so it’s been nice to have some new snacking choices available.  For me and my family, I prefer things with no preservatives, low sugar, and protein to keep hunger away longer.  If it’s nutrient rich and helps fill a food group quota for the day, even better.

What sounds good to you?

NOKA Superfood

NOKA Superfood

NOKA Superfood pouches are made from awesome, organic ingredients like fruits, veggies, and superfoods.  Each pouch is 110 calories, and does not need to be refrigerated.  They have some interesting flavor combinations available, such as blueberry beet and mango coconut.  Their goal is to offer pure organic energy that is easy to take along on active adventures.  These pack a lot of flavor, and I love the convenience, quality ingredients, and the “easy to consume and digest on the trail” aspect of NOKA.

Fruitera Smoothie Cubes

Fruitera has come up with an interesting concept, that is a great option for busy smoothie lovers.  You may have the best “eat a healthy smoothie” intentions in the world, but if you don’t have the right ingredients on hand to make one (or time to wash and chop everything up)… well, you’re grabbing that bag of chips instead.  Fruitera is a monthly subscription service that will ship perfectly portioned, frozen packages to make a single serving smoothie, right to your door.  Flavors are switched up each month, and provide a great variety – you just add water and blend.  So easy, kids can make their own after school smoothie snack.

Ingredients are organic, gluten free, preservative free, and have no added sugar.  We had to add a little honey to ours for our preferred taste, but I think it’s nice they start without sugar so you can control this yourself.  They are a little spendy, but you won’t find a slicker home smoothie option.  Check their website for delivery availability.

Salazon Chocolate

Salazon dark chocolate coffee

Mmmm…. dark chocolate!  And how about organic dark chocolate with sea salt?  YUM. We tried out the three flavors that compose Salazon Chocolate‘s Trail Series:

  • Organic Dark Chocolate With Sea Salt & Caramel (my favorite!)
  • Organic Dark Chocolate With Sea Salt & Coffee
  • Organic Dark Chocolate With Sea Salt & Almonds

Salazon dark chocolate bars are high quality chocolate, and the touch of sea salt is perfectly done… making them quite delicious.  Dark chocolate contains high levels of antioxidants, and experts generally state that dark chocolate containing 70 percent cocoa or higher has the most benefits.  The Organic Dark Chocolate With Sea Salt & Almonds contains the highest concentration of dark cocoa (72%) of the three, and is definitely the most intense.  My kids and I preferred the flavor of the coffee and caramel bars just a touch more, due to the slighter lower cocoa content (57%).  Either way, I like to think of this as “healthy chocolate”!

As part of Salazon’s Trail Series, at least 2% of gross sales of these bars will go to support the Triple Crown of National Scenic Trails.  They are organic, gluten free, and non-GMO.

Peas of Mind

Peas of Mind veggie fries

You’ll find Peas of Mind in your grocery store’s freezer section.  Offering 4 different varieties, Peas of Mind products are quick and easy snacks for you and your kids… that are also healthy, too.  They allow you to serve your family food with natural ingredients, even if you don’t have the time to make them from scratch.  Most of their products contain sneaky vegetable ingredients, the most popular line being the Veggie Wedgies – baked, crispy French fries made from real veggies.  They also offer “pull-a-parts”, pizzas, and smoothie kits.

New Primal Jerky

The New Primal beef jerky

If you’re a jerky fan (dried, salted meat), I believe this’ll be the healthiest jerky snacks you’ll find.  The New Primal jerky is made from meat that has no hormones and no antibiotics, and comes in either a beef or turkey option.  I’m a big fan of portable protein, and think jerky is a great snack to have along in your backpack.   Beef jerky flavors include original, spicy, and pineapple trial pack (that includes dried pineapple!).

Pistachio Chewy Bites

Pistachio Chewy Bites take a blissfully simple approach:

Pistachios + Cranberries = Pistachio Chewy Bites, 7 grams of protein per serving.

This all natural snack taps into the rich nutrients from pistachios, and combines that with antioxidants found in cranberries.  Each is individually wrapped, so they stay moist and can easily be taken with you as a healthy on-the-go snack.  Pistachio Chewy Bites are a good source of fiber, and are gluten free, dairy free, and GMO free.

This concludes my healthy on-the-go snack roundup!  Hopefully you found something new that interests you enough to try.  What healthy, on-the-go snacks have you found that work well for your family?

Disclosure:  I received some sample products mentioned in this post at no cost.  I was not otherwise compensated for this post.  All opinions are my own.
