The Merrell Jacket She’ll Love

For years, Merrell has been my go-to maker of awesome hiking boots.  They know outdoorsmen and their adventure needs well, and definitely build a quality, comfortable boot.  Now they’ve also branched out to offer a clothing line.  I was recently able to try out the gorgeous Silversun Featherless Puffer Jacket, and have been enjoying its use in higher altitudes where we’ve found early snow.

Merrell Silversun Featherless Puffer Jacket

The Silversun Featherless Puffer jacket is made from 3M™ Thinsulate™ Featherless Insulation – 600g fill power.  This technology mimics or surpasses the performance of natural down in fill power, loft and performance when wet, and certainly seems to deliver as a down alternative.  It kept me cozy warm when I recently tried it out on a sledding adventure.  The temperature that day was in the 30’s.  The jacket was almost *too* warm for aerobic activity in that weather, but seemed to breathe really well.

The exterior material is soft and smooth to the touch, and has a Durable Water Resistant (DWR) finish.  If fur is not your thing, the fur cuff on the hood is removable.  I think it adds a nice touch to the appearance of the jacket, but did find when the generous hood is up it limited visibility a bit.

I love the design of this jacket.  It’s so flattering, and feels like it’s gently hugging your body… without appearing tight.  This runs true to size, and was crafted with room for your sweater or fleece underneath.  I’m 5’10” and was thrilled with the generous sleeve length.  Even for those with a shorter reach, I think the sleeves will work for you.  The gathered elasticity of the sleeve ridges makes the sleeve length somewhat adaptable.

The quality zippers are well placed and glide smoothly.   Pockets are lined with a fine, plush fleece fabric, and you also get a bonus inside, lined chest pocket.

You can select one of the three lovely solid colors, or get all kinds of crazy and go with the Landscape Print.  I’ll be honest, I had my qualms about the print… but once I saw it in person, I realized it is breathtaking.  Every time I wear it, I get big grins from passersby, complements, and inquiries such as “Where did you find that great coat?!”

I cannot state this enough:  the Silversun Featherless Puffer jacket is incredibly comfortable!  The fabric and cut make it so soft and cozy, you won’t want to take it off.
