Best Spring Travel and Outdoor Gear for Women

The days are getting longer.  The birds are starting to sing.  And your favorite outdoor and travel brands are all starting to release new, crazy cool things!  Aaah…. Spring!  Don’t you love it?

Best Spring Travel and Outdoor Gear for Women

Since I work with a number of excellent brands, I like to do a roundup of the best new womens items they’ve release for their Spring/Summer lines.  Read on to check out my top picks, and find your new favorite thing.  🙂

Mountain Khakis ~ Two Ocean Tunic

Mountain Khakis Two-Ocean-Tank I love the light and airy look of this dual-layered fabric Two Ocean Tank by Mountain Khaki.  It’s incredibly soft with that comforting feel of cotton next to your skin.  Very cute style that will pair well with leggings or capris for the upcoming warm months.  I took it along to Italy during our rainy Spring trip, as an interesting and comfortable layering piece under a cardigan.

Although originally a mountain lifestyle brand featuring only mens styles, in recent years they’ve branched out and added a women’s line.  I feel they’ve struggled a bit with sizing, with a past tendency to run small.  They’re getting on the right track now, though.  The Two Ocean Tank runs true to size.

Native Eyewear ~ Sixty-Six

Native Eyewear Sixty Six sunglasses I love Colorado-based sunglasses brand Native Eyewear, because who would know better how to look mountain lifestyle cool while protecting your eyes from high altitude rays?

No one.  That’s who.

Check out the hip womens Native Sixty-Six style, new for Spring.  Aaaahhh… love these!  Extremely comfortable to wear, with advanced polarized lenses that block up to 4x more infrared light than regular polarized lenses.  What kind of quality are we talking here?  Well, all Native Eyewear sunglasses come with a lifetime limited warranty.  I’ve worn various styles of Native Eyewear on nearly all my year-round outdoor adventures for the past 5 years, and never experienced a single issue.  These are some terrific shades.

Orvis ~ Florence Cinch-Leg Pants

Orvis Florence Cinch-Leg Travel Pants I’m very excited about the new Orvis “Florence” travel collection.  I tried the Florence Cinch-Leg Travel Pants , and found the fabric was luxurious, is of excellent quality, and wears beautifully.  They have a wrinkle-resistant, slinky look to them and breathe very well – essential for a great travel pant!  They are quick-dry, so a good choice for traveling light.  Yet they don’t need to be washed as often as other pants, due to the awesome silver/anti-order component.  I packed light recently for Italy, and these made the cut.  I was especially happy to have them during my super long, jetlagged travel days.

I’d say they run a little large, but I stuck with my typical size.  They do have a slight “jodhpur” shape (bowed out at the hips). I tailored mine myself and took the side seam in, since I like a straighter shape. I’m curvy, but even altered they were quite roomy and comfortable.  I’m also 5’10” and they aren’t quite long enough, but I cinch the sides for a cute crop look.

Nuu-Muu ~ Wildfire Scoop Dress

Nuu Muu Wildfire Scoop front fitness dress These active wear dresses are so fun!  Nuu-Muu dresses are cool and comfortable, designed in a nice range of sizing for every woman’s body.  Each season they release some new prints, and I adore the funky “Wildfire” Scoop Dress I tried out this Spring.

Personally, I wear my Nuu-Muu with capri leggings.  There’s a sassy little side slit and a handy pocket in the back for your phone or key, when you’re bag-free… such as on the bike trail.  Looking all cute.  Likka girl, and whatnot.

Note about sizing:  When I followed the Nuu-Muu size charts, I ordered a size larger than I normally would.  It was too big!  I recommend sticking with your traditional size to start out with.

Haiku Bags ~ Bliss Saddle Bag

Haiku Bags Bliss Saddle Bag Allow me to rave, as I love Haiku Bags! If you’ve not checked out this hip brand that makes well thought out bags in eco-friendly materials, it’s time to do so.  They’re gorgeous, durable, lightweight, and they’re made from recycled water bottle fabric.  I mean, COMMON!  What’s not to love?!  They have some old standby styles their fans will not let them stop making, along with new and exciting designs each season.

This Spring… behold the Bliss Saddle Bag.

I’ve used mine for a month now, and I’d like to take this opportunity to nominate it for the Haiku Bags Hall of Fame.  Perfect medium sized bag, with just the right amount of organization – the Bliss will be sticking around awhile!  I’m surprised at how much I like the one central divider, as I’m not typically a fan of that layout.  But with this smallish, Messenger style bag… it serves a worthwhile purpose of having plenty of room on each side, while allowing you to find things more quickly.   Bravo!

And how gorgeous is this Cinnabar Wisteria?  Gorgeous.

Aventura Clothing ~ Tempo Hoodie

Aventura Clothing Adira Tempo Hoodie After serving as an Ambassador for Aventura Clothing for three years, I’m still a die-hard fan.  Every season I wait with anticipation to see the new line.  And this Spring, they’ve added an Activewear line called “Adira”!  Exciting news indeed.

Even more impressive, is they seem to have gotten the fits and fabrics right from the start.

The Tempo Hoodie fabric is incredibly soft, but not clingy, and has great tech features like moisture wicking and drying quickly.  This style is slightly fitted, but still true to size.  Works alone or over a base layer top, and has awesome side pockets.

Aventura Clothing ~ Vibe Legging

Aventura Clothing Adira Vibe Legging Legging fit can be tricky, but Aventura Clothing got it right on the first try with the Vibe Legging.  The contoured waistband rises slightly in back, which sort of “grabs” your hips and keeps them from falling down.  Super comfortable.  And the seam details make them really, really cute.

Two thumbs up!

Aventura Clothing ~ Tempo Top

Aventura Clothing Adira Tempo Top I struggle to find a fitted fitness top that isn’t TOO fitted.  Although I do think it’s more comfortable and practical to wear a fitted style when exercising… I don’t like how unflattering they tend to be.  Well, Aventura Clothing typically does a fantastic job of sizing, and the Tempo Top is no exception.  They nailed it!

Made from the same soft tech fabric as the Tempo Hoodie.  The back detail is really cute, makes this a not-at-all-boring workout top, and even makes it a little more flattering.  Tops like this don’t come along every day, and I may need to stock up with another color.

Royal Robbins ~ Jammer Knit Knicker

Royal Robbins Jammer Knit Knicker A few seasons ago, Royal Robbins came up with this fabulous waist design for women’s bottoms.  They called it “Jammer”.  Fans quickly ensued.  The Jammer line expanded to include everything from shorts to skirts to pants.

New for this Spring, they’ve taken the Jammer style waist and incorporated it with a flexible “trail knit” fabric.  It’s soft yet durable, and I really like this funky hybrid Jammer Knit Knicker style.  I sized up, as I didn’t want them to fit as tight as a true legging.  This made the waistband a little large on me, but with an interior cinch cord… it still works.  I really like the mobility and comfort of these, and the side pockets are super handy.

The Jammer Knit Knicker is one of my top Hiking and Camping gear picks for this outdoor season.

Eagle Creek ~ Expanse AWD Carry On

Eagle Creek Expanse AWD Carry On Bag I’ve used the Eagle Creek Expanse AWD Carry-On for multiple trips, over the past few months.  It still looks like new.

Most recently, I traveled a week in Italy with my husband.  Once again, I was incredibly impressed and happy with the Expanse AWD Carry-On.  Such a great size, and held up really well through a busy, three city tour.  We did have to occasionally check our bags, and I was sad to see my pristine Expanse AWD head off into the care of the airlines.  I’m glad to report it still looks as good as new, which testifies to the durability of this little champ.

I’m sure you’ve heard it before… but boy, does it pay off to pack lightly for Europe!  Although it was cold and rainy, I was able to lug everything I needed in the compact Expanse AWD.  The outside 2 zipper pockets provide the perfect amount of organization.  The wheels are tough, yet it navigates quite smoothly.

And it passed the ultimate Best-Bag-to-Take-to-Europe Test:  Being drug over the cobblestones of Venice to meet a water taxi at 4 a.m.  🙂

Toad & Co ~ Daisy Rib Sleeveless Dress

Toad and Co Daisy Rib Sleeveless Dress in Blueberry The devil is in the details with Toad and Co’s simple staple styles.  The Daisy Rib Sleeveless Dress new for this Spring has a nice ribbed texture to it.  It flows and drapes well, yet still does a decent job with coverage of a less-than-23-year-old-model’s flat stomach.  Such a versatile style, I’ve already worn it on chilly Spring mornings with a cardigan and leggings.

Tencel fabric is one of my favorite things to wear! The Daisy is 95% Tencel, and is so soft you’ll want to double duty this cute dress as a nightgown.

Kuhl ~ Parajax Jacket

kuhl parajax jacket My top outdoor gear pick for Spring!

I’m amazed at the difference wearing a technical jacket like this makes, to improve your comfort level on outdoor adventures.  And I’ve not found a better option than the new Parajax by Kuhl.  This super lightweight, breathable jacket protects you from wind and sun, without adding any bulk.  The right pocket can be used as stuff sack, so it turns into a teeny tiny AWESOME piece of gear to always, always include in your backpack.

Fit is spot on perfect, and it feels great on.  Flattering cut, with just enough room to fit over a base or even medium-warmth layer.  I love the technical fabrics Kuhl uses, and the Parajax AIR BLOK™ 100% Nylon Ripstop is no exception.  I’ve tested it in the chilly wind, and it works likka champ.

Sherpa Adventure Gear ~ Dikila Zip Tee

Sherpa Adventure Gear Dikila Zip Tee cropped I’ve heard good things about Sherpa Adventure Gear, so I was excited to test out my first piece.  It was a tough choice, as they have some really cool things.  But I selected the Dikila Zip Tee for it’s ideal mid-weight, and long history of rave reviews.

The reviews didn’t lie.  The Dikila is an awesome top for active adventures.  Perfect fit, true to size, not too fitted but loose enough to be flattering.  Sometime zip neck tees pull back on my neck, and the fit is a bit awkward.  Not on the Dikila, the design is perfect.  Generous sleeve length.  With such a versatile weight, this top will be in my bag for many future adventures.

Craghoppers ~ Luna Tight

Craghopper Luna Tight Craghoppers makes some excellent options for outdoor trail time, and the Luna Tight is here to rescue you from bug bites!  I’ve been wearing my Insect Shield Craghoppers top for 2 years now, and it truly does make a difference.  This season they’ve introduced a pair of trail tights with the same concept – treated with Insect Shield

I’m not entirely sure why they went with the precision of numbered sizing (vs typical legging S/M/L sizing), and I think the fit still needs a bit of fine tuning.  The pair I received has an odd little flair towards the bottom of the leg.  I do recommend sizing up one size.

If you have not tried clothing like this with the Insect Shield protection, I highly recommend investing in a piece or two for your outdoor endeavors.  Craghoppers has an excellent selection of Insect Protective clothing.

Wallaroo Hats ~ Naples

Wallaroo Hat Naples Camel Sun protection is the smart play, ladies! After my bout with skin cancer on my face, I’m pretty good about wearing a sun hat.

Wallaroo makes a nice array of styles at affordable prices, and I really like the interior adjust hatband feature.  Check out this classic Wallaroo Naples style, perfect for summer adventuring and looking as cool as you feel.

Haiku Bags ~ Cadence Wallet

Haiku Bags Cadence Phone Wallet The Haiku Cadence Wallet is a great compact option for girls on the go.  Think of it as a condensed version of a wallet, plus a safe and secure place for your phone all in one.  Comes with a cross body strap for hands-free use, and works well to throw into your larger day bag.  My iPhone 6 fits easily in the compartment, and the plastic cover allows for touch use.

The wallet portion of the Cadence is a bit minimalist.  But if you can pare down, overall it’s worth it to have such an efficient, compact package.

Get the Sapphire.  The blue is so lovely!

Orvis ~ Pack and Go Travel Jacket

Orvis Pack and Go Womens Travel Jacket I’m not sure how this attractive and nicely designed, full featured, long jacket fits into a smallish, flat square stuff sack for light packing – but it does!  The Orvis Pack-and-Go Travel Jacket is “a wind resistant layer for every adventure”.  I love that it has two interior pockets to keep valuables.  That feature was at the top of my list for selecting a jacket to take along to Europe.  Seems pretty wrinkle resistant too, as I’ve unpacked and worn it numerous times.

Runs true to size, and looks classy.  It’s a great lightweight coat, and I find I’ve worn it just as much at home, as I have when traveling.

Mountain Khakis ~ Haven Tank

Mountain Khakis Haven Tank Cute, cute, cute!  The soft denim Haven Tank by Mountain Khakis is a unique style that looks great on.  They don’t skimp on fabric quality, and I really love the feel of this denim top.  Can’t wait to pair it with white capris this summer!

I was worried about the shoulder cut, and how it would work with bra straps.  I found it works best with a nude colored racerback styled bra.

UPDATE:  This little beauty is such a hit, that MK is out of stock!?  But you can still snag a Haven Tank on the REI website.
