Ford Will Send Your Teen to Advanced Driving School for Free

I recently sat through a presentation by Ford Driving Skills For Life representatives, and listened as they described what I thought was a bizarre technology:  Drugged and drunk driving suits.  This "wearable tech", as they called it, simulates the physical restrictions a person experiences when they are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Why would anyone need that?  To teach your teenager how serious it is to drive drugged or drunk, during Ford's advanced driving school.  That's right, Ford holds advanced driving school for teen drivers... and it's free.  This training is a hands-on clinic, and provides the ultimate form of training for young drivers who hold a permit or license. Ford's Advanced Driver Training     The Ford's Advanced Driver Training is offered each year in 10-15 states.  Ford attempts to disperse and change the locations annually, in an effort to increase their reach and share this opportunity with as many teens and their families … [Read more...]

Car Safety Tips for Children

Because September was "Baby Car Safety Month", the Frickey Law Firm in Denver, Colorado, took at look at this important topic and had the following timely infographic crafted.  The below image features some vital car safety tips for children, including the 6 most common mistakes parents are making when loading their most precious cargo. A Look at the 2015 Subaru Legacy

As a participant in the Subaru Legacy Blogger Program, my family recently had the chance to enjoy a 2015 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited on loan for one week.  We took the opportunity to cross the Rocky Mountains in style, and spent a weekend in Denver, Colorado. This proved an excellent venue to test out some of the Legacy's features.  Heading from our neck of the woods in Western Colorado, over the Rockies to Denver on the Front Range, meant getting to trying out performance while crossing Vail Pass at 10,600 feet altitude.  It also gave us a chance to check out the gas mileage of this all wheel drive sedan.   The Legacy handled the elevation and fairly steep grades of crossing the passes quite nicely, maintaining steady speeds, and making smooth shifting transitions as needed.  But as for our impression of the initial acceleration, I'd have to say I've seen better performance.  We were surprised that this 2.5L 4-cylinder engine seemed a little gutless, even driving … [Read more...]

Colorado Road Trip in the Legacy

Last weekend my family attended a convention in Denver.  Living on the "Western Slope" (west side of the Rocky Mountains), this meant a scenic road trip across the state of Colorado to reach the "Front Range" (the more populated east side of the Rocky Mountains, where Denver is located).  Plus, we had the exciting opportunity to borrow a 2015 Subaru Legacy for our mini vacation.   Among other things, this meant a sunroof. Sunroof's are always a good time! I love traveling on I-70 for a Colorado road trip, and think it's one of the prettiest and most impressive stretches of  US interstate in the country.  In many places, it hugs the Colorado River. Where the mountain passes were too steep, or geography just didn't lend itself well, they've built a tunnel or two through which you'll traverse.   Terrain through a few stretches (just east of Glenwood Springs is my favorite) will wind you through breathtaking canyons.  This was my first time doing so in a car with a … [Read more...]

Joining the 2015 Subaru Legacy Blogger Program

I recently received an exciting invitation to join the 2015 Subaru Legacy Blogger Program.   They were offering me and my family a loan of an all-new 2015 Subaru Legacy this August, plus a gas card and some fun Subaru swag. Well, driving myself back and forth to work on my 5 minutes commute each day isn't really that exciting.   But alas, the Subaru program coordinator suggested in the email invitation that my family could take the Legacy on a weekend trip.  Now we're talking! I already have a personal connection with Subaru, because I live in Colorado.  Ha!  Inside joke.  It seems like every 3rd car here in Western Colorado is either a Subaru Forester or Outback.  We are big fans of the all-wheel drive thing on our adventures! But seriously, about ten years ago I purchased my first ever brand new vehicle... a 2004 Subaru Forester.  I still love it, it's been a perfect fit for me and my family's lifestyle.  It's getting a little worn around the edges though, and there's … [Read more...]

Urban Adventure in the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Last week I attended a media launch event in Minneapolis, hosted by Hyundai to show off the all new 2016 Hyundai Tucson.  I fell in love with this sporty-yet-gorgeous crossover SUV model, and can totally see it fitting in nicely with a "live in a city, but love playing in the outdoors" lifestyle. Crossover sport utility vehicles have been taking the car industry by storm.  This new-ish automotive class hits the sweet spot between an SUV and a mid-sized sedan.  While a crossover SUV is slightly smaller than an SUV, you still sit up higher, have off road capabilities, and it has fuel economy close to a mid-sized car.  That's a trifecta, people!  This market is growing so rapidly, that 1 in 3 vehicles now sold in the US is a crossover. While the Tucson has been around since  2004, Hyundai has recently poured a bunch of fantastic changes into this all new 2016 - including: Extra safety features (more on this below...) Impressive technology (including Blue Link, with remote … [Read more...]
