Disney Pressed Penny Money Holders

Make Your Own Disney Pressed Penny Money Containers

Sprinkled throughout the Disney Parks are pressed penny machines, adored by children of all ages.  Each typically features 3 designs to choose from, often themed to the attraction or land they are near. And kids are drawn to them like moths to a flame. Disney Pressed Penny Machines ~ The 51 Cent Souvenir At first, we resisted.  There’s so much to see, and do, (and spend money on) at Disney… surely this tiny thing can’t be that big of deal?  After awhile it occurred to me, that the resulting pressed penny is actually a pretty neat souvenir. They’re also cheap.  And small.  Both good things on vacation. Most machines currently take 51 cents:  2 quarters and 1 *shiny!* penny.  (There are a few pressed quarter machines, which cost a little more, but they are more rare.) But let's face it, having your child pester you for change every time they spot a Disney pressed penny machine can be annoying... even on a vacation when anything goes!  So when I heard about this … [Read more...]

See BEARS Protect Our National Parks [Trailers]

Disneynature Bears sunrise

Living in a Rocky Mountain state, my love of bears is expressed in multiple ways.  Everything from that mix of hope and fear that I will spot one while hiking, to my penchant for using bear designs in my Colorado home's lodge decor.  So when I saw this year's new Disneynature film to be released in celebration of Earth Day was "Bears"... I was a very happy camper! See BEARS Protect Our National Parks You've perhaps seen the TV commercials where they say:  "See Bears Protect our national parks".  Well here's the scoop on what they are talking about, and how when you see the movie affects whether you can participate in this great campaign. If you go to see the new movie Bears in theatres during opening week (April 18-24, 2014) - Disneynature, via the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, will make a contribution to the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, to protect wildlife and wild places across America’s national park system. So there's your … [Read more...]

Our #DisneySide Celebration Costume Party!

DisneySide Party - Invitations, Food, Games, and More

You may have heard the buzz on social media this past month, regarding the #DisneySide Home Celebration Party campaign. Disney social media marketers recently packaged up some fun party supplies and tidbits, placed them all in a lovely American Tourister carry-on sized spinner bag (the official luggage of Disney), and shipped them out to around 1,000 families to host their own #DisneySide parties at home. And if you'd like to join in the fun, Disney put together an website chock full of inspirational ideas for anyone interested in hosting their own Disney Side Celebration. As I dug into the party planning details these past couple of weeks, I found myself chuckling and thinking, "I can't believe I haven't thrown a Disney-themed party before?!"   We rounded up some kiddos, and had a great #DisneySide costume party last weekend.   Here are some highlights - including our Disney invitations, games, decorations, party favors, and food.  A very good time was had by … [Read more...]

Disneyland Solo…I Won’t Make the Same Mistake Twice

Since my son is now three, I'd guess this was around 3 1/2 years ago.  I was a few months pregnant, and attending a work conference at Disneyland's Grand Californian Hotel.  I say that all casual-like, but I still feel a little giddy with excitement when I mention it. Now anyone who reads my blog is going to find this very hard to believe, but my plan was to *not* go to Disneyland (or California Adventure Park) while I was there. What?? Guilt.  Mommy guilt.  I'm good at all kinds, actually, but in this case it was potential mommy guilt that seized me in my tracks.  I had a 5 year old Disney lovin' daughter missing me back home, and it just didn't seem right to go without her. So I arrived at the Grand Californian Hotel around 1:00pm, the day before my conference.  Huh.  Several hours on my hands.  If I threw a rock, I could hit Disneyland. I proceeded to troll innocently baaaack and foooorth through Downtown Disney.   Baaaaack and foooorth. Impressive degree of will … [Read more...]

Disney Wordless Wednesday ~ Characters at Mickey’s Toontown Fair

Welcome to Disney Wordless Wednesday!  This week's theme: Character Encounters A few short years ago, we took our first Disney World trip together as a young family.  This was a time when Mickey's Toontown Fair was still open, and the Walt Disney World Railroad featured a stop in this area. Characters at Mickey's Toontown Fair As we pulled into the Toontown Fair station, we were very excited to see an entire group of characters ready and waiting to greet us, at an area just off to the side (literally, no lines... I believe they had just been brought out). Still new to the Disney trip scene, none of us realized how rare the situation being presented actually was - from the large number of characters, to the very few people in the area, to the unique characters we saw that day. Being totally drawn to her, and there being no other fans around... my daughter ran back up to Marie 3 different times!   We've never had a "Character Encounter" quite like it - before or since.  It … [Read more...]

Disney Trip Surprise Bags for Kids

Disney Trip Surprise bag for kids

Mom is on the final, exciting stretches of Disney World vacation planning!  It's finally time to wrap up those last few details, and execute the ideas I've been dreaming up for months. For the first time, this trip is a SURPRISE to my kids! Another first:  I'm putting together some Disney Trip surprise bags for my kids. Here is what I've put together thus far, and I'd love to hear from you on any other tips to add or consider.  Have you done something similar? Disney Trip Surprise Bags On our last trip, I had a fun Mickey themed tote bag full of Disney World snacks and goodies delivered to our room by Disney Floral and Gifts.  My family loved having this magical surprise waiting for us in our Disney resort room. They do an amazing job, and the tote bag turned into a useful and fun souvenir to bring back home.  But I thought I'd save some money this go-round, and do something a little different. So I've put together two Disney Trip surprise bags for my kids!  (Ok, so I … [Read more...]
