You Might Be Training For runDisney If…

This past July, I took the runDisney plunge for the very first time and registered for the Princess Half in February 2016.  It will also be my first half marathon, which is daunting for a new runner like me.  And without throwing out any embarrassing age numbers, let's just say running was easier on my body 20 years ago.  But being the Disney fanatic that I am.... it's totally worth it!  Right? In training these past few weeks, I've noticed some amusing changes in my lifestyle and thinking patterns that apparently go along with training for a runDisney race.  Do any of these seem familiar to you? You Might Be Training For runDisney If...   While exercising, you fantasize about churros and Mickey Ice Cream   After a tough run, you logon to My Disney Experience to review your reservations and cheer yourself up.   Your snack stash has been invaded by healthy energy bars and gels.   Instead of online shopping for winter sweaters and boots, you scour … [Read more...]

My runDisney Princess Half Marathon Training ~ I Told Her!

If you've been following the tale of me pursuing my first runDisney race, you may know that the plan is for our Most Excellent runDisney Princess Adventure to be a three generation girls trip.  My mom, myself, and my 10 year old daughter. And that it was a BIG SECRET for my daughter! I registered her and myself for the 5k on Friday, and just myself for the half marathon on Sunday.  Plane tickets are purchased, Disney package reserved.  It's 121 days away (but who's counting?) Running is something I want in my life, to stay fit, healthy, and active.  For that same reason, I'd love to see my daughter embrace it, too.  It kills me how sedentary kids are these days, and it's not entirely their fault.  I want to help her find an activity she loves, and I was hoping a fun event like this would prove to be as much of a motivating incentive for her, as it is for me. I envisioned us running free... side by side.  A strong and happy Mother-Daughter duo. Or maybe a Mother running with … [Read more...]

I am a child of the 80's.  A bonafide, original Star Wars lover.  And as such, I cannot adequately express how excited I am about the new STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS movie being released in theatres this December 17, 2015.  And that the film stars the original Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leah - Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher!  The new cast member look amazing, too. STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Movie Trailer In case you missed it during it's debut showing during half time of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” last night,  here's the first full STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS movie trailer. What's this...?  A reformed Storm Trooper...?     Tickets to the highly anticipated cinematic event are now on sale everywhere tickets are sold. For more information, visit   STAR WARS on Facebook: STAR WARS on Twitter: STAR WARS on Instagram: … [Read more...]

My runDisney Princess Half Marathon Training ~ Dory Approach “Just Keep Running…”

I've been running for about two months now, since I registered for my very first runDisney race... the Princess Half Marathon.  Woo hooo!  Not gonna lie, progress feels slow.  In my younger days, whenever I would pick up running it seemed I'd experience a breakthrough after about 2-3 weeks.  This time round, no lightning breakthroughs.  (*shakes head slowly, in mild disgust*) This will also be my first half marathon, and I really do have pretty high hopes, thanks to Jeff Galloway. I've been following his run-walk-run method, and it works likka champ!  I'm amazed how spot on his running time charts are, which I would have thought would vary greatly person-to-person.  But sure enough, when I use the 1:1 ratio (run 1 minute, walk 1 minute)... I'm averaging a 13 minute mile.  Just like Jeff said I would.  Pretty cool. I really love this.  If you haven't seen it - check it out.  It's been making running pain free for me, and much more enjoyable. I thought I'd have been able to … [Read more...]

My runDisney Princess Half Marathon Training ~ Trip & Weekend Plans

It's been about a month since I took the plunge and registered for the runDisney Princess Half Marathon - my first ever runDisney race, and first ever half marathon. Because that registration window for the half was around 4 hours long before it filled up, and because I hadn't been watching for, or planning on, it... it was an impulse decision. I told myself I'd make the investment in holding myself a spot, just in case I was actually able to pull off such a trip in February.  I had my doubts. Well, as you may or may not know, once you start making those ADRs ("Advance Dining Reservations", to the non-Disney brainwashed).... there's just no turning back! I was told by a Disney Reservation Cast Member that ALL the Disney Resorts are considered "host resorts" for the 2016 runDisney Princess Half weekend, and will have early morning transportation available.  First decision made:  My mom, daughter and I will be staying at Caribbean Beach. I'm trying to keep the costs down, and I … [Read more...]

Disney Wordless Wednesday – Wild Rides

I'm joining in on the fun Disney Wordless Wednesday hop this week, since I'm really missing Disney lately and I love today's theme:  Wild Rides! On our previous trips, we've had a "just barely tall enough for a few crazy rides" 4 year old, and a "not super crazy about wild rides" 9 year old.  Given those parameters, here are some of our family's favorite WILD RIDES... For pure adrenaline, we all love Test Track. A Magic Carpet flies through the air... that's wild, right? Waterslides DEFINITELY count as wild.  The largest one at Caribbean Beach is much zippier than you'd think... Ever rode in Mater's mouth while he drives backwards?  You guessed it. Wild. And if "super exciting and full of happy anticipation" counts as wild, this is one of our absolute favorites... What's your favorite wild ride at Disney? *o*     *o*     *o* Thanks to Deb at Focused On the Magic for hosting this fun weekly Disney photo blog hop.  Join in the fun and click on … [Read more...]
