Disney Wordless Wednesday ~ 4 Things I Always Take Pictures Of

Hooray for Disney Wordless Wednesday!  With only 27 sleeps left on my family's countdown to our next Disney World vacation, I enjoyed looking through photos for this week's theme.  Here are the four most common things I always take pictures of. # 1 - The Castle and Fireworks I don't want to talk about Wishes going away.  *sob* At least we'll get to see it one last time. #2 - Family Photo Entering Magic Kingdom A classic.  It's no small feat to pull this off, either... as my family's always vibrating with excitement to get inside Magic Kingdom and start our day of fun! #3 - Disney Food, Particularly Mickey Waffles A blogger's annoying habit.  "DON'T EAT THAT YET!!!"  :) #4 - My kids with Mickey I wish I had used some consistent pose/character/location for photos with my kids on our trips through the years, like I've seen some parents do.  Oh, well... shots like this still make me happy. It doesn't matter where we find Mickey, seeing him is always a highlight! … [Read more...]

Disney Cars: Extended Look at Cars 3, What You Should Know, & Carsland!

After a distressing couple of months with nothing but that awful (as in, upsetting) teaser trailer of Lightening McQueen getting in a wreck that "changes everything"... we finally are getting an extended peek at the new Cars 3! Cars Movies ~ My Family's Favorite! First, I'd like to address the commentary I've read online about Cars and Cars 2 "not being Disney/Pixar's best work".  What?  What?  What's this? To hear that someone thinks the Disney Cars movies aren't great films genuinely puzzles me?  My family absolutely ADORES Cars.  The setting, the characters, the storylines, the jokes, Mater's twangy accent.  All of it. Sure, having a young son who loves all-things-with-wheels has increased our interest.  But as an adult parent who has watches hundreds (perhaps thousands) of animated movies in the past decade, I know of what I speak.  The Cars movies are fantastic, and well worth a repeated watch.  And we can't wait for the release of Cars 3! I'd just like to plug … [Read more...]

Is Disney California Adventure’s “Frozen – Live at the Hyperion” Worth the Time?

It's new, it's hot, and everyone wants a seat.  Being a full scale Broadway-caliber musical, the new Frozen - Live at the Hyperion production that recently opened at Disney's California Adventure Park is a bit of a time investment.   Even with a FastPass, waits will be involved.  And the Frozen musical itself lasts about an hour. So is it worth the valuable park time? This was my family's recent dilemma, when for the first time in forever... we had just one precious day to experience both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park. Frozen... Are You Over It? First, let's address the elephant in the room. I'm a huge lover of all-things-Disney, and I feel like Frozen was one of their best animated films ever.  But at the risk of sounding like a hater, I'm over it. I'm sorry, but I feel like the saturation of merchandising, attractions, and promotion of that movie has given me a bit of a Frozen hangover. I love Olaf.  I do. "Let It Go" gives me goosebumps.  It … [Read more...]

Disney Cars 3 Cruises to the Big Screen in 2017

This just in... some very exciting news from Disney Motion Pictures!  Cars 3 will be cruising into theatres in 2017! A new release in the beloved Cars storyline will be a must-see for my family, and reconfirms my desire to try and get us to California to experience "Carsland" soon. Disney Cars 3 Cruises to the Big Screen in 2017 Owen Wilson is back in the driver's seat as the voice of #95, Lightning McQueen, who faces a new challenge in "Cars 3." Directed by Brian Fee (storyboard artist “Cars,” “Cars 2“) and produced by Kevin Reher (“A Bug’s Life,” “La Luna” short), “Cars 3” cruises into theaters on June 16, 2017. "Having worked on the first and second "Cars" movies, I’m honored to be directing "Cars 3," said Fee. "These characters are like family to me, so it’s very special to be able to follow Lightning McQueen as we dig even deeper into racing and McQueen’s relationship to the sport than we ever have before. The mix of thrills and emotion in the film is going to be really … [Read more...]

Easy Disney Resorts Planning 101

My family and I are big fans of taking our vacations at Disney World.  This love extends blatantly into our daily life at home, including my work office bedecked in Mickey Mouse and Cinderella Castle mementos. In other words... it's no secret.   And while not everyone knows about my planning spreadsheets I create for each Disney trip, they do know I love Disney Resorts Planning!  So I'm often asked for Disney planning advice.  I say "Disney Resorts" because it's the #1 tip I always give people:  Stay on the Disney World property.   This brings with it so many benefits, additional pixie dusted ambiance, and even cost savings. But this post is about easy Disney Resorts planning!  It can be intimidating to plan a Disney World vacation, worrying that you'll miss something.  In recent years, exciting changes like FastPass+ and the use of My Disney Experience to make reservations and keep track of your itinerary makes it even more critical to do some planning up front. So here … [Read more...]

My runDisney Princess Half Weekend ~ the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Mission accomplished, and it's a such an amazing feeling!  Participating in a runDisney Half Marathon has long been a goal of mine.  Between enjoying fitness, and being a Disney addict... this was solidly on my bucket list.  (And let's face it, people.  I ain't getting any younger.)  Last weekend I finally got to fulfill the dream, when I ran in the 2016 runDisney Princess Half.  With my mom and daughter both joining me, it was to be a grand Three Generation Girls Trip. Alas, it was not without it's ups and downs.  I also learned a thing or two along the way, that I'd wish I'd known about runDisney events before our adventure began. The Bad   Let's just get the BAD out of the way. American Airlines apparently "discontinued" my outgoing flight a few weeks ago.  Nice.  Although they reassured me they sent an email last November, I never received any notice of this adjustment.  Sadly, it robbed us of our allotted 4 hours to head to the ESPN Sports Complex on arrival night. … [Read more...]

My runDisney Princess Half Marathon Training ~ I’m Over It

First, I'll start by saying it's 15 more sleeps.  And I'm very, very excited for my first runDisney race ever, the Princess Half Marathon!  The Disney resort plans are all in place: ADRs (Advance Dinner Reservations) and FP+ (FastPass attraction reservations).  I've worked really hard to get here.  Six months of following Jeff Galloway's training plan.  Pretty much religiously. The Magic Bands have arrived, and we even scored some adorable new custom luggage tags (American Tourister throws them in with your Disney package mailing). I'm grateful to be able to take my two weekly 30 minute runs indoors at a rec center during my lunch break.  I'm *not* super grateful that it's at a University where 19-20 year old athletes are training, and they frequently lap (and I can only assume pity) me.  But that's another story. The long runs on the weekends have been outdoors.  In Colorado.  In winter.  And they hurt. I know I'm not alone in these struggles.  But it's my blog, so I'm … [Read more...]

You Might Be Training For runDisney If…

This past July, I took the runDisney plunge for the very first time and registered for the Princess Half in February 2016.  It will also be my first half marathon, which is daunting for a new runner like me.  And without throwing out any embarrassing age numbers, let's just say running was easier on my body 20 years ago.  But being the Disney fanatic that I am.... it's totally worth it!  Right? In training these past few weeks, I've noticed some amusing changes in my lifestyle and thinking patterns that apparently go along with training for a runDisney race.  Do any of these seem familiar to you? You Might Be Training For runDisney If... While exercising, you fantasize about churros and Mickey Ice Cream   After a tough run, you logon to My Disney Experience to review your reservations and cheer yourself up.   Your snack stash has been invaded by healthy energy bars and gels.   Instead of online shopping for winter sweaters and … [Read more...]
