Back To School With ZBar Protein [Giveaway, Ended 8/12]

Zbar Protein 3 Flavors

Here in Western Colorado, the kids have already headed back to school.  You read that right, the first week of August.  (Disgusting! Don't even get me started...that's a whole other topic. )  At the top of my "Hooo-boy, here we go" Mom Angst List is this:  Trying to pack healthy lunches, in a hurry, each morning for my daughter to take to school. That's one of the reasons why I dearly love Clif Kid ZBars.  My kids devour them, they are quick and easy snacks to throw in a lunchbox, and the ZBar Protein bars contain even higher levels of protein to keep them fuller, longer. And in a stroke of genius (you polled a bunch of kids, didn't you Clif??), all three flavors of ZBar Protein contain CHOCOLATE - Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Mint, and Peanut Butter Chocolate. They think they're getting a treat.  Meanwhile, you're sneaking into their diet: 5g of Protein 3g Fiber Organic Whole Grains No high fructose corn syrup, synthetic preservatives or artificial … [Read more...]

2015 Outdoor Gear Essentials Roundup

2015 Outdoor Gear Essentials

We're just about to wrap up July, and in my humble opinion the local Colorado kids here are heading back to school waaaay too early.   This summer my family was more determined than ever to get out and camp, bike, and hike as much as possible.  Personally, I've got A LOT of warm weather play and quality mountain time left in me for this season! One of the perks of being an outdoor blogger is getting to try all sorts of gadgets, technical clothing, and gear.  Sometimes it doesn't live up to the hype, or the price tag.  But other times I find quality items that we end up using time and again, which to me truly seem worth the investment. So without further ado... I present to you the Best-of-the-Best that I've found for outdoor adventuring this year:  My 2015 Outdoor Gear Essentials Roundup. Pelican 20QT Elite Cooler Pelican coolers have a reputation for being virtually indestructible.  Although we didn't personally try loosely strapping ours to the back of an ATV, then … [Read more...]

Power Through the Outdoors: Tips from Kevin Jorgeson

camping lakeside with flashlight and headlamps

My family loves to head out and go camping at every opportunity. We make an effort to be screen free during these times, to try and maximize our enjoyment and appreciation of the outdoors.  But there's still some crucial outdoor gear we never leave home without, and  many of it requires batteries. Headlamps, lanterns, flashlights, and walkie talkies... all go-to items.  These need long lasting battery life both for safety reasons, and to enable you to power through your outdoor adventures even longer. Although I'm not a rock climber, I wanted to share these cool tips from Kevin Jorgeson.  Kevin is a climbing and outdoors expert, most notably known for his record-breaking free climb of El Capitan’s Dawn Wall.  He enjoys outdoor adventuring at night, and Duracell makes the only batteries he trusts for his long climbs. And be sure to check out the awesome giveaway of some outdoor gear at the end! Power Through the Outdoors: Tips from Kevin Jorgeson Outdoor climbing can … [Read more...]

Kids Can Record Their #GreatestSummerEver

VTech KidiZoom Action Cam used by kids at the zoo.

This summer, VTech® Kidizoom® Action Cam can help your kids record their #GreatestSummerEver!  The easy to use, durable design allows children to take the Kidizoom right along with them on adventures - capturing their memories with photos and videos on the go. Whether it's a hike through the woods, using the included mount for your Kidizoom to capture a video of your bike ride, or just taking it along on a trek to the zoo... kids love having a camera of their own on these adventures. My kids have been having a blast trying out the Kidizoom.  While my 10 year old has put in more time actually using it, my 4 year old also enjoy taking photos with it, and it was easy enough for him to figure out. Before I even realized it was a feature, my daughter had discovered the games and was playing them in the car on our recent road trip to Denver.  It also didn't take long for them to discover how to utilize the built in frames feature.   We found the design to be … [Read more...]

Have a Family #MyDisconnectDay

DisconnectDay Kids by Campfire

Even if you don't have close access to some majestic National Park... most of us can make an opportunity to slow down once in awhile, and enjoy spending some time in the Great Outdoors. Doing so as a family can help you reconnect with each other, make some quality memories together, and typically costs next to nothing.  We flat out spend too much time staring at screens (all four members of my family are guilty of this... down to the 4 year old borrowing daddy's iPad), instead of talking, playing, and laughing together.  That's why I immediately loved Cabela's new #MyDisconnectDay campaign. What is #MyDisconnectDay? According to Cabela's, a Disconnect Day is: "One day to put down your devices and reconnect with the great outdoors, your family and your friends." Watch this awesome, quick video that captures the essence of #MyDisconnectDay... and I think you'll fall in love with the idea, too: And if that wasn't enough to get you to join in on a #MyDisconnectDay of your … [Read more...]

Clothe Your Hip, Outdoorsy Guy in Ecōths [Giveaway, Ended 6/26]

Ecoths Marlon Shirt

As an Aventura Ambassador, last year I was introduced to their new sister company brand for men: Ecōths.  This eco-friendly apparel line features natural fabrics, most of primarily {extremely soft!} organic cotton. Ecoths Clothing for Men The Ecōths style to me is a great combination of outdoorsy and stylish, yet casual, so guys who aren't crazy about dressing up still enjoy wearing it.  And they look really good when they do! My husband now has two button down Ecōths shirts.  Both are very soft, and look amazing on him.  He really likes wearing them, and they are his go-to shirts whenever we do something "special".  ;) Ecōths also participates in an important social initiative with their motto "Join the fight against hunger.  Be the change."  For each garment they sell, they donate 3 meals. In their first year of business 2014, they donated over 48,000 meals throughout the US to food banks in their sales reps territories. Ecōths offers tees, henleys, and polo shirts in … [Read more...]

SPF Protection for Skin Cancer Awareness Month

As we head into some glorious, longer, sunny days... the month of May is dedicated to Skin Cancer Awareness. It's the perfect time of year to give thought to this topic that is ever increasing in importance.  And it's the time to make sure your family is ready to have safe fun this summer - with SPF protection from sun hats, sunscreen, and SPF clothing. Did you know that more people have been diagnosed with skin cancer than all other cancers combined?  It's been described as a "lifestyle disease", affecting people of all ages.   One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. The good news is, because skin cancer is primarily a lifestyle disease, it is also highly preventable.   SPF Clothing All clothing is not created equal, when it comes to sun protection.  It's the same concept as sun screen, which have varying SPF levels of protection. Well, the same holds true of that tee shirt you think is keeping harmful rays off of you while … [Read more...]
