My runDisney Princess Half Marathon Training ~ I’m Over It

First, I'll start by saying it's 15 more sleeps.  And I'm very, very excited for my first runDisney race ever, the Princess Half Marathon!  The Disney resort plans are all in place: ADRs (Advance Dinner Reservations) and FP+ (FastPass attraction reservations).  I've worked really hard to get here.  Six months of following Jeff Galloway's training plan.  Pretty much religiously. The Magic Bands have arrived, and we even scored some adorable new custom luggage tags (American Tourister throws them in with your Disney package mailing). I'm grateful to be able to take my two weekly 30 minute runs indoors at a rec center during my lunch break.  I'm *not* super grateful that it's at a University where 19-20 year old athletes are training, and they frequently lap (and I can only assume pity) me.  But that's another story. The long runs on the weekends have been outdoors.  In Colorado.  In winter.  And they hurt. I know I'm not alone in these struggles.  But it's my blog, so I'm … [Read more...]

5 Things I Can’t Run Without

There's a formula.  The gear and circumstances I can queue up for myself, to make sure I actually take that run.  Because as much as I've been enjoying training for the runDisney Princess Half Marathon, there are days when I really don't want to go running. Granted I'm a beginning runner, still in the early stages of training.  I'm averaging 2.5 miles, three times per week.  I use Jeff Galloway's genius run-walk-run method, and I swear it's saving me a great deal of pain.  (Love you, Jeff!)  I've also been experimenting with various gear and items to support my running.  Thus far, I've identified these 5 things I can't run without! Note, some of the items below were sent to me as samples to test out.  Some of them I purchased myself.  All are truly great running gear, and are items I feel I can't live without. 1.  Tiny, Rockin' Music Player I have music on my phone, and music on my iPod Nano.  However, neither of these have *exclusively* running music on them.  This left me … [Read more...]

My runDisney Princess Half Marathon Training ~ Dory Approach “Just Keep Running…”

I've been running for about two months now, since I registered for my very first runDisney race... the Princess Half Marathon.  Woo hooo!  Not gonna lie, progress feels slow.  In my younger days, whenever I would pick up running it seemed I'd experience a breakthrough after about 2-3 weeks.  This time round, no lightning breakthroughs.  (*shakes head slowly, in mild disgust*) This will also be my first half marathon, and I really do have pretty high hopes, thanks to Jeff Galloway. I've been following his run-walk-run method, and it works likka champ!  I'm amazed how spot on his running time charts are, which I would have thought would vary greatly person-to-person.  But sure enough, when I use the 1:1 ratio (run 1 minute, walk 1 minute)... I'm averaging a 13 minute mile.  Just like Jeff said I would.  Pretty cool. runDisney Princess Half Marathon Training ~ Jeff Galloway's Run Walk Run I really love this.  If you haven't seen it - check it out.  It's been making running pain free … [Read more...]
