A broken or faulty home AC can ruin your summer. It’s terribly uncomfortable when the inside of your home is just as hot as outdoors. That’s why you should call a air conditioning repair in Denver CO as soon as you notice a problem. Here are some signs that your AC is in need of repair.

Strange Sounds

An AC is not completely silent. It does make noise when it’s turned on, but the sound isn’t loud or intrusive. Weird noises like loud popping, banging, rattling, or screeching means trouble. It’s likely that your system won’t last much longer. This is the perfect time to call an AC repair technician to inspect your system.

Bad Smells

Air from the AC travels through the air ducts in your home. This is how the AC distributes cool air to different rooms. If you notice a bad smell, this likely means there’s mildew or mold in the system. Mold and mildew can cause breathing problems for people and pets in your home. A repair technician can find the root of the odor and clean the system.

Turn the AC off immediately if you smell something burning. The smell of burning could indicate problems with the wiring. If you do in fact have a wiring problem it could cause a fire. Keep the AC turned off until it’s checked and repaired.

Increased Electricity Bill

Have you noticed an unusual spike in your power bill? It’s not uncommon to have a higher power bill during the summer. The AC usually causes a rise in power usage. But the bill shouldn’t suddenly skyrocket out of control. If your power bill is abnormally high, it could mean your AC is overworked.

Dirty air filters are often the cause of an overworked AC. Dirty filters block air flow, and the AC has to worker harder to cool the home. When the AC works harder it consumes more energy and increases your power bill. Avoid this by cleaning your air filters every month. You may also want to install new air filters every 3 months.

Cooling Problems

Is your AC running but cooling inefficiently? If your home isn’t as cool as it should be, then the answer is yes. Sometimes an AC will output air that is slightly cool but not cold. This problem can result from damaged insulation, faulty equipment, and air leaks. A problem with the thermostat is also a possibility.

An inspection can pinpoint the exact cause of the cooling problem. Even if the AC is outputting slightly cool air, don’t delay getting it checked. It’s possible that the problem will worsen. In a worse-case scenario, the AC might stop cooling altogether. The next thing you know it’s blowing hot air and you’re stuck in a hot house.

The Importance of Reliable Repair

Your AC is an investment. It’s in your best interest to make sure it works well. Repairs are often costly, but buying a new system will cost even more. Call a reliable repair technician to check your system. If the company that installed your AC makes repairs, then give them a call. There are also reputable repair services you can find online or in the local phone book.
