A Stay at River Run RV Resort in Granby, Colorado
There’s an exciting new RV Resort in Colorado that’s just opened up near Rocky Mountain National Park! My kids and I went to check out this beautifully located new facility, and have the scoop on what to expect from a stay at River Run RV Resort in Granby, Colorado. They’ve got lots of cabins, too… so anyone who loves lovely outdoor views can stay and play. Plus they’re very dog friendly!
This resort is brand spanking new, and at the time of our visit in Fall 2019 it was still under some construction. There was no obvious or permanent signage yet on the turn-off from the main road. But you can still find it fairly easy, in a large open area on the western edge of Granby. In late October they were planning to close RV rentals and camping, due to weather. But cabins are still available this winter, and all of the amenities will be up and running (with the exception of the pool).
This is a fantastic family vacation spot. And come next Spring, once things thaw out and construction is hopefully complete, it’s gonna be better than ever! So please read on to see what to expect, and why I think you’ll enjoy a visit to River Run RV Resort whether you bring your own camper, or rent one of those cute cabins.
River Run RV Resort Location
The River Run RV Resort is situated right on the western edge of town at Granby, Colorado. It’s a beautiful location with 360 degree mountain views, just 55 miles Northwest of Denver. The nearness to town offers a convenient option for running to the grocery store (they have a nice City Market), or to a restaurant for additional dining options.
One of the things I was most happy to see was that it’s located only 13 miles or so from the west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. This allows you to “sneak in the back way” to this iconic national park, which is generally less crowded than the more commonly accessed entrance on the Estes Park side.
Plus, rumors have it that this is the end of the park with more moose! We failed to spot any on our day adventure to the park, but it was beautiful nonetheless.
Both Camping Spots and Cabins Available
In addition to RV and tent camping spots, River Run RV Resort has a number of brand new cabins to choose from. They offer a variety of sizes and layouts. My family loves to go camping, but I love this having option of a cabin rental. Oftentimes it’s easier for us to rent a cabin, than pull our camper with gas guzzler SUV to a destination 4+ hours away from home. Plus, dogs are allowed in cabins, which I think is fantastic!
We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin, or “vacation rental” as their website calls it. It was like a tiny house! The kids got a kick out of it. We had a full kitchen, and plenty of space. Our cabin was stocked sufficiently to do a little cooking. Outside we also had a patio with two deck chairs, a picnic table, and a fire pit (although no other seating around the fire pit).
The beauty of this resort is that the main facility buildings have so many amenities to offer, and all guests get to take advantage of them. Golf cart rentals are available, and even seat up to 6 people. This is a huge place, so it’s a wonderful option to have.
Kids under 16 are not allowed to drive, much to my children’s chagrin. But they still loved buzzing around between our cabin to the swimming pool, bowling alley, general store, or craft activity room.
Amazing Swimming Pool
I will tell you right now that the amazing swimming pool area was my favorite part of our visit to River Run RV Resort ! This area felt like a swanky resort. The pool is fantastic, huge, and the water was warm enough for my kids to swim on a 50 degree October day.
There are three – count them, THREE – lovely hot tubs. My favorite! Nothing quite as relaxing as a fresh new hot tub with strong jets and mountain views in the distance. I might have gone here multiple times. One night I even ditched my kids at the bowling alley for this relaxing scene…
All of this being said, they have since then drained the pool for the season, to prepare for snowy weather. If you are interested in this part of your stay at River Run RV Resort, I’d call and ask next Spring to see if the pool will be open again by your dates.
Playground, Bowling, Golf and More!
They’ve thought of all the details at River Run, and packed in all kinds of family fun play options. The first thing my son noticed was this awesome outdoor playground.
With a crazy, inflatable outdoor jumping pad! This was a huge hit with the teen girls in our group, too.
But probably their favorite thing to play during our weekend stay at River Run RV Resort was miniature bowling. At the time of our stay, bowling was free! They loved it, and returned again and again throughout the weekend.
There’s a pretty putting green, with free use of equipment stored nearby.
In addition to all of this, they had lots of lush outdoor seating areas with fun games to play like giant jenga, or giant connect four. The seating area outside the restaurant pub even has an outdoor fireplace and large tv. A great area for your group to congregate, hang out, and relax while the kids play.
Summit Bar & Grill is onsite, and offers a bar type menu. This Summer and Fall they had weekend themes, with fun crafts, activities and bingo for families to enjoy. My kids had fun making tie dye shirts at one of the craft activities.
River Run RV Resort Cabin Photos
Right now, the website is a little vague regarding what the cabins look like. So I thought I’d include some River Run RV Resort cabin photos to give you a more clear picture of what to expect.
Just be prepared for the cabin areas to look like miniature neighborhoods. This surprised me a little. But the upside is that they have a TON of cabins available, and the rates are very reasonable. I’m hopeful that the prices will stay affordable because of this.
Future Plans… And So Dog Friendly!
So here’s the straight scoop on the reviews that complain about construction. It’s true, there is a lot of equipment, construction workers, and activity still going on at River Run RV Resort, as of Fall 2019. It seemed like they were primarily finishing landscaping type areas. But all of the main buildings and amenities, restaurant, fitness facility, general store, and amazing pool are finished and available.
Things should have quieted down by Summer 2020, and I recommend a visit. The trade off in these early days is lower crowds and lower prices… so I actually think it’s a perfect time to check it out.
And hooray for how dog friendly they are! There is already one dog park at River Run RV Park, with plans to add two more. One of them will include an agility course. This scoop came from an employee, so hopefully that all pans out. But I am impressed they are allowing dogs in the cabins. When you are taking an outdoors type vacation, it’s so much fun to bring your dog along!
They also plan to develop their small man made lake area into a water recreation spot, with kayak and SUP rentals available. This wasn’t developed yet in 2019, but I bet by summer 2020 they have it ready.
They’ve got big plans for River Run RV Resort in Granby, Colorado, and I think it will be become a family vacation favorite in this area.
