Ontario is a huge, vibrant and diverse province that offers countless opportunities for family activities and fun packed days out.  There are plenty of Family friendly activities in Ontario that both grownups and kids will enjoy.  If you’ve traveled with your kids, you’ll know that finding family friendly activities that everyone will enjoy is not always easy. The combination of the rich culture and heritage of Canada (and Ontario in particular) makes for the most entertaining family friendly activities and distractions that will keep both you and your little ones occupied for hours on end.

Family friendly activities in Ontario

Whether your family enjoys the great outdoors in the winter months for cold weather sports, going on an adventure in the wilderness in summer, or both, Ontario has a wealth of family friendly activities to offer. Some favorites are listed below.

Visit Toronto Zoo

Toronto zoo is Canada’s largest zoo and features over 400 animals that are conveniently organized by their places of origin. The set up alone is great for making it easier for kids to learn and understand about the different types of animals, their habitat, and where they exist in the natural world. T

he zoo also promotes conservation and educational events all year round and also provides interactive activities for young ones. Be sure to check out the dedicated children’s zone, where you’ll find the ‘splash zone,’ a popular favorite with kids of all ages.

Niagara Falls

As there is so much more to do than just viewing the waterfalls themselves, Niagara Falls is sure to provide you and your family with full fun packed days. All year round, there are events and activities running that appeal to children of different ages including water parks, stage shows, and films, as well as hiking and trekking trails to see the rapids up close. There is also a free-flying aviary at Niagara that’s home to over 500 types of birds, while the Parks butterfly conservatory features over 2,000 of these beautiful creatures.

With so much to do, you may need more than one day to fit in all the activities so it’s a good idea to check out a  Niagara Falls Hotel or go camping at one of the local parks instead.

Ontario Place

Ontario Place is a large theme park where you’ll find a perfect mixture of fun and learning. In addition to massive thrill rides, bumper boats and mini golf, families can also visit the eco-learning center to learn about conservation or catch a nature documentary at the IMAX theatre.

Algonquin Provincial Park

There are quite a few Provincial parks dotted in and around Ontario, but  Algonquin  is widely known for providing the most family friendly setting of them all. Families can go on canoe rides with options available for short-term paddles or self supported canoe-camping trips in the backcountry.
Depending on your budget and the timeframe that you’ve got to work with, Ontario offers many family friendly adventures that are sure to keep your family entertained and busy during the summer holidays or on a short winter break. The above list contains suggestions of some of my favorite spots but there are no limits to the activities and sights that are there to be enjoyed. From fly fishing and skiing to long walks and experiencing the might of the amazing Niagara Falls, it’s all there waiting for your family to discover.
