Making Sure Family Members Can Keep up with Their Studies During Long Trips
Most family holidays are quite short. Usually, they last a week, maybe two. Just enough to give you all a chance to fully relax and reconnect. But, every now and again it is nice to take a longer trip as a family. To go on a special adventure and really experience what a far-flung country has to offer.
These types of trips take a fair amount of organizing but are well worth doing. One of the things you need to think about is how to ensure that the kids, and maybe you, can keep up with studying. From a fairly early age, kids get given homework to do during the holidays. When they are older they have projects, essays and other types of papers to write. So, you need to put plans in place to make sure everyone can still study while traveling.
Tap into the Power of Online Tools
Making sure they have access to tools that will help them is a good start. For example, the student’s plagiarism checker and other writing aids that you can find here. Before you travel, open all of the necessary tech accounts and download any software and PDFs they may need.
Pack a Reliable Tablet or Laptop
It is also a good idea to make sure that everyone’s tech devices have the latest software and updates on them. Also, take the time to remove any unwanted programs and defrag the drives. This will speed them up a bit and reduce the risk of the device overheating and needing to be repaired while you are traveling.
Pack at Least One Spare Device
If at all possible, take more than one laptop or tablet that is suitable for your children to use for their school or university work. Try to arrange things so they are not both in the same suitcase or carry-on bag. That way if one gets damaged, lost or stolen, you will have something to fall back on.
Check that the battery keeps its charge well. Do this before you leave for your trip. If you want to be doubly sure the device will always be ready to use, consider investing in the kind of power bank that can be used to top up a laptop or tablet. You can find out how to pick the right type, by clicking here. Also, try to take more than one charging cable.
Make Sure You Buy Adequate Travel Insurance
If you are each taking a phone and some sort of laptop or tablet, it is wise to make sure that your travel insurance provides adequate coverage. You don´t want to discover that your policy only covers one or two of your devices if your hotel room is broken into.
Include Some Study Time in Your Itinerary
It is wise to put aside a bit of time each day to allow the kids, and maybe you, to do some studying. You don’t want them to have to miss out on activities to get their work done.
If possible, plan a few activities that are especially relevant to the subjects your children are currently studying. For example, visit a museum, historic place or monument. Doing this gives them the chance to glean more information than the rest of their class. Plus, it provides them with the chance to include some unique photos or videos in their project or essay. Something that can potentially help them to secure a higher mark.
