Happy Egg… Next Best Thing to Owning Backyard Chickens
They had me at “You want quality, fresh ingredients that are raised in a humane way”. Yes, I do! I think we all do. However finding affordable, healthy food sources has become more and more of a challenge these days. It’s one of the reasons why we love having our own backyard chickens.
But if raising your own chickens is not a feasible option for you, Happy Egg just may be the next best thing. They are the pioneer of free range egg farming, and I just adore their story.
Happy Egg Hen: A Chicken Story
Ahhh… imagine your life for a moment, as a Happy Egg hen.
Not unlike drinking a cup of coffee to start your day, the first order of business is to lay your morning egg. It’s a soothing routine for your body, which keeps you on track and feeling right.
Now you can go out and socialize a bit with the girls! As you mosey through your 6-foot “pop hole” leading out to the free range yard, you contemplate your lot in life. Not all hens are so fortunate, you realize. You’re very grateful for this sunny and relaxing portion of your day.
First, some yoga wing stretches to get the blood pumping.
Next, you swing by the fresh water dispenser. You ponder whether they’ll ever add an espresso stand in this field?
Giiirrrl… you know I’m dying for a dust bath now. I picked up a few new tossing tips from my friend Clementine last week, and it does a fantastic job of filtering dirt between my white feathers so thoroughly that I’m almost black. It’s pure heaven!
Last, you decide to head over to the shade for some foraging. You shudder at the thought of a small-coop contained lifestyle.
Yes, you are a happy chicken indeed. You’re a Happy Egg hen!
Fresh Eggs from a Humane Source
What hens eat is also important, as it affects the content of their eggs you purchase and consume. Happy Egg hens are fed a specially formulated diet of corn and soy that’s all natural, vegetarian, and free of hormones.
They raise hens to thrive under natural conditions, promoting small family farms, and responsibly sourcing eggs. Actually, the excellent conditions they maintain for Happy Egg hens helped them to be the first free range egg producer to achieve certification by the American Humane Association.
I was impressed by the carton of Happy Eggs I tried from our local grocery store. No anemic, pale-yellow yokes here!
Chickens Love the Outdoors, Too!
Note that when you buy just “cage free” eggs… that does not mean they go outside. Cage-free permits just 1.5 square feet of space per bird, and ONLY inside the barn – never outside. This is not the case with Happy Egg Co. Their eggs are all sourced from small family FREE-RANGE farms. That means each of their farms has over 8 acres and up to 10 acres of pasture, forest area, dust-baths and even play-kits for their hens to enjoy outdoors every day.
With so many reasons to check out Happy Egg, I think you’ll want to find Happy Eggs near you soon.
