I Took the WordPress Plunge!

I moved my blog!

Except I didn’t have that model guy in the picture to help me, I had to do it all by myself.

I reached the big decision that I was enjoying blogging enough to go ahead and stick with it awhile.

So I took the plunge and switched from Blogger to using a self-hosted WordPress site with my own URL.  This was time consuming.  And painful.

It probably didn’t need to be, but I made a few mistakes along the way.  Oh, yeah – and then there’s that perfectionist thing.  Rearing its ugly head again.

Plus, I’m a developer … so I kept brow-beating myself with thoughts like, “You should be able to figure this out!”

The Big Template Decision about did me in.  Did me in, I say!  In the end, I went with the most flexible, functional choice I could find – zeeCorportae.  And I realize that it’s boring.  I’ll work on trying to make it look less boring down the road.

I’m curious if anyone would be interested in some posts on the Blogger to self hosted WordPress process?  Very easy, 1 – 2 -3 type of thing?

I’m considering writing some articles about it, to try and salvage a little something from the experience.  I did find quite a few articles on how to do so, but oftentimes they were just surface level descriptions and then the offer to do so for you for a fee.  I needed details!

Hope you found me here and plan to come back again!  Please bear with me as I work through the formatting of old posts…

When I first got my dot com, I had it through a wordpress blog – but I so could not figure it out. And then the woman I hired to make my webpage pretty – well, she only worked with the blogger platform (which is what I was used to) – so I had to figure out how to switch back. I actually had a friend’s husband who is in IT help me – and it took him a long time to figure it out. It all makes my head hurt! But…I just find blogger so much more user friendly. Though I see everywhere that with a business I should be on wordpress – but alas, I am baffled!

That makes me feel better, thanks. 🙂

From what I’ve seen thusfar, Blogger does seem much easier. I miss it already!

Blogging’s not a race, Trace. Ok – yes it is, and I just won. 😉

Oh, too bad that he wasn’t able to help! 😉 You will definitely get the hang of it! Themes are so hard to decide on, I think I’m on my 4th! Check out Woo Themes and simplyWp.net for free themes too!

Congrats. I love WordPress. I switched from Blogger a little over a year ago & have loved it. Blogger has its good points too, but WP just works better for me.

      Thanks, Mel!

Already feeling a little more comfortable after a few days of playing with it. I think I’m gonna love it! Can see how much more flexible and powerful it is.

I would be interested to read about switching from Blogger to WordPress. I consider switching from time to time, and I would like to know more about your experiences with it.

Instead of waiting for your write-up, I went ahead and took the plunge myself. It was a little frustrating at first to get everything like I wanted it, but now I’m glad I did it! 🙂
