Jane Iredale Makeup & Denver’s AOB Med Spa

The past few weeks I’ve had the pleasure of trying out a lovely brand that was previously new to me:  Jane Iredale makeup.  Available at Denver’s AOB Med Spa or online, this is a natural, healthy makeup line designed not only to enhance your beauty but also nourish your skin.

jane iredale is also called “The Skin Care Makeup”, as founder Jane was the first to supply this industry with a line of makeup that had skin care benefits.

 

Using the jane iredale makeup line offers benefits such as:

• Won’t block pores
• Virtually no allergy risk
• Broad-spectrum UVB and UVA protection – up to SPF 30
• Anti-inflammatory, can calm and soothe irritated skin
• Complete coverage for skin conditions

I don’t wear a lot of makeup, and don’t like spending a lot of time during my morning routine to get ready.  At a minimum, I do like my skin to feel and look good, smooth, and even-toned.  This gets to be more of a challenge with age, but I think jane iredale does a great job of meeting my needs in this area.

Here’s an overview of some of the jane iredale that I’ve tried.

Jane Iredale Makeup

First, if you live in Denver – it’s a great opportunity to be able to head right to AOB Med Spa to see and try these jane iredale products for yourself!  It’s easier to choose a foundation shade in person, and they’d be happy to consult with you on which items fit your skin needs and preferences most.

For the rest of you, there are some great options.  jane iredale does offer a nice starter kit, with smaller sizes and 2 different types of their mineral foundation for you to try.

 

The also have a helpful foundation quiz, to help you decide on both foundation type and find your ideal shade.  I used that quiz to select my products, and was very happy with my choices.

Smooth Affair® Facial Primer & Brightener

Smooth Affair® Facial Primer & Brightener is an allure magazine “Best of Beauty” award winner.  This primer is applied first, prior to your foundation.  It includes anti-aging properties which aim to even skin tone, minimize the appearance of pores and increase luminosity.  It does not contain SPF, so you will want to incorporate that in your morning regime with another product.

Not quite the thickness of an evening moisturizing cream, but thicker than I was expecting, Smooth Affair feels wonderful and is quickly absorbed into your skin.  It has an invigorating, light citrus scent.  For me, primers are sometimes a tough sell… as using one seems like added cost, for negligible or at least hard-to-gauge results.

In an effort to truly test this out, I tried several days with the Smooth Affair (and then jane iredale PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation – see below) , and several days without.  Everything else the same.  Could I tell a difference?  Yes.  Everyone’s skin is different, so I’m sure results will vary.  But for me, it gave my skin more “color”… it’s not tinted, but I just felt my skin had almost a healthy flush to it.  And I do think it made a difference in how well my foundation coverage stayed put throughout the day.

Conclusion?  It’s a lovely product, improves the appearance of skin, makes my skin feel nourished. Given the choice I would definitely use this (in addition to my foundation) on a daily basis.

PurePressed® Base Mineral Foundation

If you are new to the brand, as was I, I can tell you that jane iredale is best known for their mineral foundations.  I tried out PurePressed® Base Mineral Foundation, which comes in a beautiful, high quality gold metal compact, with a mirror.

It does come with an applicator sponge, but they also provided me with a Handi® Brush that I absolutely love.  I think applying with the brush gives you more of an airbrushed, blended look and yields more control over how you want to distribute the coverage.

This brush is the perfect size, comes in an individual vinyl case to protect it, and works like a champ.  I’ve used many makeup brushes, and this is one of the best I’ve seen.

I was already a user of loose mineral foundation.  I like a fair amount of coverage and a matte finish, but for it to look natural.  I’m really enjoying the PurePressed® Base Mineral Foundation, and would say it’s similar in results to what I’m used to, but perhaps even a bit better in smooth and thorough coverage.  Contains antioxidants, is free of synthetic chemicals, and provides SPF 20 UVB/UVA protection. It’s lovely!

POMMISST® Hydration Spray

As your last morning mineral foundation step, or really any time during the day as a refresher:  POMMISST® Hydration Spray.  This light mist feels great, has a pleasant mild scent, and can be used either as a finishing touch after applying your makeup in the morning, or as a pick-me-up later in the day.  The intent is actually to use post-mineral makeup application, as it sets the minerals for a long lasting, smooth finish.

I’ve tried other brand’s hydration sprays, and by comparison the application of jane iredale’s POMMISST is superior – it sprays on in a soft, even coverage that doesn’t leave you with uneven wet patches on your face.  (I hate that when that happens.) There are actually 3 hydration spray choices from jane iredale:

• D20, with Ylang Ylang to calm and protect the skin
• POMMIST, with Pomegranate Extract, a powerful antioxidant and UV protector.
• Balance, formulated specifically to help balance skin’s oil and pH balance, beneficial for acne-prone skin

Tough choice!  All are equally beneficial, but this gives you the option to customize to your skin’s needs.

JustKissed Lip and Cheek Stain

One last fun dual purpose makeup item:  JustKissed Lip and Cheek Stain.  This comes in either “forever pink” (for you gals who look better in cool tones) or “forever peach” (warm tone).  Used as either a blush or lip gloss, it’s natural ingredients enhance your natural coloring.

JustKissed Lip and Cheek Stain will adjust to your own body chemistry, and will show up as a shade that’s unique to you, which flatters your skin’s undertone.  It includes olive and avocado oils, and glides on easily – feeling nice and moisturizing on my lips.   I’m not used to using a non-powder blush, so am still getting the hang of applying it and blending it properly on my cheeks.

This is a great travel item, as it allows you to pack light and have both blush and lipstick in one piece.  Also works well as a dual-purpose, on-the-go makeup item to include in your purse.

Overall, I love the results and healthy, nourishing skin concept behind the jane iredale beauty line. I definitely recommend checking out jane iredale products.
