Kids Luau Party Kit in a Box ~ Aloha!
I recently posted about a new online business called Party Kit and Kaboodle, which offers the easiest, most stress free way to throw a themed kids party.
Just select a theme, and your kit comes right to your door, including such items as: personalized invitations, plates, napkins, cups, silverware, tablecloth, decorations, stocked treat bags, costumes, 7-12 original (themed) games, and even music to play.
All you do is add food and have fun!
Our Kids Luau Party Kit
We received a “Children’s Luau, ages 7+” party kit for 8 to review. Having thrown a couple of (expensive, very time consuming) parties for my daughter in the past, I was looking forward to trying this “party kit” concept out.
My daughter and I excitedly opened the box upon its arrival, to discover that items were grouped together nicely: food serving supplies, decorations, and game items were each in a separate clear bag.
You will also find paper handouts that are extremely helpful, with everything from “what to do 3 days before, what to do 1 day before” reminders, to the instructions for the games.
Now we just had to mail out those pre-printed, adorable invitations (did I mention how they’ve handled pretty much everything for you?) and wait for our party date!
Kids Luau Party ~ Aloha Arrival & Costumes
We had a great turnout. I think the sight of the cool invitations alone were a clue to the girls that a very fun party was in store.
Each girl received a small party favor tote bag, with a tattoo, Hawaiian flower hair clip; neck, wrist and ankle leis to wear; and a hula skirt to wear. They looked adorable, and getting to dress up along with the theme quickly got them all into the Tropical Party mode!
Kids Luau Party ~ Game Ideas
I’ve read with kids parties to play games first, eat food last. But I let the kids vote, and we decided on the “some games-eat goodies-some more games” combo. It seemed to work really well, especially since we had one late arrival, and that way she still had a chance to play games during that second round.
The instruction sheets and props included fortunately covered a very wide range of several game ideas and options. As a parent, I find the games aspect of a kids party to be the most stressful. Will they think this is fun? Will everyone participate? So having that taken care of was a welcome relief.
There’s just no way of guessing whether a game will be a screaming hit, or a quiet dud, until you try them out on the group. Having plenty of backup ideas is a great approach.
It took awhile for the kids to warm up. The first two games on the list were somewhat physically challenging – perfect for the age group specified, but we had a couple younger ones that felt intimidated. So we ended up rushing through those a bit.
However, soon we all broke stride and everyone was laughing, giggling, and having themselves a grand time. Again, the party kit included such a fun range of ideas that everyone ended up with a different favorite game, and all the girls enjoyed themselves immensely.
Kids Luau Party ~ Decorations & Food
The decorations weren’t extensive, but were easy to put up. Here’s a tip that I wasn’t aware of: Don’t bother to put helium in your balloons the day before … they won’t last!
The kit came with balloons, ribbons, a table centerpiece, and streamers. Plus, as a bonus for being one of their first customers – two large window/wall cling-type tropical pictures were included, which we loved and helped complete the tropical atmosphere.
A quick Google search on “Kids party food ideas” was about the sum total of the preparation work I had to do for this awesome “party kit in a box” experience!
We went with a very easy, kid-friendly menu:
- Fruit kabobs
- Popcorn
- Frozen pizzas (I did heat these up…. 😉
- Cake & Ice Cream
- Individual tubs of cotton candy (from Sams Club, they loved this!)
Your kit also comes with a music CD to play in the background throughout your party. Again, a great mood setter! This is something I always try to do for parties myself, finding songs and creating some sort of mix … which is obviously time consuming. So it was lovely to have it included, and ready to just pop into the stereo.
We also used the CD when the girls and I attempted a hula dance. The party kit instructions walked you through by describing a few hula moves, and as the Impromptu Luau Dance Instructor – I used those as a spring board, and winged it from there.
Mildly awkward in front of the other mom attenders, but hey – the girls enjoyed it, and that’s what it was all about.
Party Kit and Kaboodle Review
In summary, here is how I felt about this fabulous, fun, and stress-free experience of throwing my daughter a party using a kit from Party Kit and Kaboodle:
What I loved:
- Having all the work of a party done for me, delivered to my door… just added food!
- Full-fledged Luau theme, carried through to the tiniest detail
- Pre-printed invitations were gorgeous & saved time and work
- Costumes for the kids made it more festive & engaging
- Numerous game ideas were very fun, helpful, & appealed to a range of personalities and ages
- Easiest, most fun party I have thrown for my child!
What I didn’t love as much:
- The kit was a little light on decorations – I think they should consider including the window/wall clings in every kit, they were awesome!
- The Luau Party music CD had a couple of songs that maybe weren’t the most appropriate for younger kids (Margaritaville, It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere) – certainly wasn’t offensive, and we still played it… but maybe they could find something more just for kids.

This is absolutely adorable!! What a terrific company 😀 My boys STILL love a good luau; of course now it involves steaming grogs, but you still need to set the party atmosphere!

This would be great for my daughter! She has been wanting to see her school friends this summer, but she’s going to a different kindergarten than all the kids she went to preschool with. Very cute party pack!
