Protecting Your Camper or RV

Hooray for camping season!  We are looking forward to heading out with our RV this coming weekend, and I can’t wait. If you’re like us, your prize camper ends up sitting outdoors when not in use.  Our Western Colorado sun is INTENSE and highly damaging.   We recently realized we should look into an affordable way to protect our camper.

First, a bit of background on my camper that I love so much!  Last year we were able to update our trailer camper to a newer, lighter one.  This was an exciting development for our family, born out of necessity.  Our previous 1979 Winnebago trailer was just too darn heavy, and threatened to blow out the engine of our poor Tahoe every time we pulled it up the mountain.  So we sold it to a grateful ex-con, who needed a place to live.  But that’s another story.

Although still a used RV, I’m grateful we found such a beautiful new camper in our price range.  I joke that it’s nicer than our house.  And every time I walk inside, I sigh a happy little sigh, and think “I just want to pack a little bag of clothes, grab some books… and come live in here.”  🙂

But that nasty sun has already started to take a sun-fading toll on our camper.  Nooooo!!!

Hurray and huzzah! We’re going camping again soon!

Protecting Your Camper From the Elements

My husband recently mentioned we should try and find a large tarp to cover our camper, which sits parked alongside our house but is pretty much fully exposed.  It was around that time I got an email from Grizzly Tarps to do a gear review, and it looked like it would fit the bill nicely.  This is a very affordable option for protecting your investment in your camper.

I selected a “silver” Grizzly Tarp (more on the styles and differences below) in their largest size:  20’ x 30’.  Our camper trailer is around 26 feet long, so I figured this should work nicely.  I was very happy with the thickness of the material once it arrived… it’s definitely beefy.

Here’s how the tarp fit.

Also comes down almost the entire way on the other side.

Although it takes a little effort to cover it, I’m so excited we are finally protecting our camper from the sun!

Tarps are awfully handy.  Another great use would be to take it along camping.  It could provide quick shelter from the elements, whether rain or intense sun.

I also hear they’re useful for yardwork, and stuff.  Meh.  Who wants to do yard work, when you could go camping…?!
