Shred Dog Premium Snow Gear for Kids
Shred Dog is a young company who has set their sites on filling a niche. The brand makes premium quality ski and snowboard gear for kids, and sells them online directly to you – eliminating the retail middleman markup. My 8 year old son has been wearing Shred Dog gear for almost 2 months now, for both playing in snow and some Spring weather. Here’s our Shred Dog review, and why I recommend the brand.
Shred Dog Review
Right now, the Shred Dog collection is fairly small. But don’t let the lack of selection dishearten you. These are fantastic pieces, and we have been super impressed with each of them. You don’t need a bunch of hard shells, pants, and jackets to choose from. Because they’ve packed all the best features into each style.
Shred Dog pieces are comparable to high-end, premium performance outerwear. The “no retail markup” model allows you to get more for your money. More about their direct to you pricing here. Makes sense to me, and does seem to be pretty on par with the website prices and quality we’ve seen.
They call it “co-design”. It means Shred Dog has taken input from parents on what styles, colors, and features to include. The result is some truly great, practical winter gear for kids.
I love that they offer free shipping and free returns. This allows you to see the fabric and features for yourself, and have your kids try on Shred Dog at no risk.
Adjust-A-Fit™ System Delivers More Bang for Your Buck
The Adjust-A-Fit™ is included in each of the products I discuss below, both tops and bottom. It’s a genius concept, and better executed than I’ve ever seen before by adding built-in elastic cinch and buttons. That allows you to shorten, lengthen… and then shorten again for the next kid.
Really adds value to this product line. We used it to shorten the Ridgeback Convertible Bib Pants for my son, but didn’t need to for the jacket system.
Boys Duke Hardshell
Although I preferred the look of this navy boys Duke Hardshell jacket shown above, my wild son picked the wild print. Aaah, it suits him.
Honestly, this jacket looks even better in person that in the photos online. As soon as I saw it and started checking it out, I was impressed. Then we got a chance for him to wear it in the mountains playing in the snow and it definitely didn’t disappoint. He stayed warm and dry all day. Even after a day of doing this.
Features of the Duke Harshell include being waterproof, breathable, with underarm vents. This Hardshell has the Adjust-a-fit system in the sleeves, so the length can be easily adjust. A zipper system lets you attach the insulator layer (the Malamute, shown below).
I think he’ll get good use of out of this year round, as it can also be used for a wind or rain jacket.
Boys Ridgeback Convertible Bib Pants
I have no doubt the Ridgeback Convertible Bib Pants are the most deluxe snow pants either of my kids have ever experienced! We prefer bibs, but it’s awesome to have the option to also convert them to be worn as pants.
The fabric used makes them fully waterproof, and they’ve even seam-taped them for ultimate performance. The bottom tight snow cuff did it’s job well, keeping the snow out even when snowshoeing through deep, fluffy powder.
The 3M Thinsulate makes them nice and warm, and thanks for the Adjust-a-Fit™ system, my 8 year old was able to size up to a 10 and wear them a year or so “early”. I’m happy they should last him at least 1-2 more seasons. I’d say fits true to size.
Boys Malamute Insulator Jacket
The Malamute Insulator is a soft, movable, cozy-warm, breathable jacket. My son absolutely loves it, and has literally worn it daily since he got it. He has a fancy, fleece lined soft shell I had just purchased for him before he got the Malamute. It’s now been replaced, and he insists this Malamute is warmer. I suspect he also just prefers the fit and flexible movement of this jacket.
Now that the weather is warmed, he’s just wearing the Malamute with no outer shell. We’ve moved into muddy Spring adventures like this…
And I’m happy to report, the Malamute jacket washes up beautifully!
The Malamute Insulator Jacket runs small, and you may want to size up. Again, my son is 8 years old, and these photos show him wearing a size 10 Malamute Insulator Jacket. It fits perfectly, but a size 8 would have been too small. When zipped, it fits close to his hips (he is tall and slim).
This is size 10 pants and insulator jacket. He typically wears a size 8. Pardon the messy house, and blurry hands in this shot… but I wanted you to see the fit. He rarely stands still. And I rarely clean the house.
Mid-weight Gaiter
I wanted to also mention the Shred Dog Mid-weight Gaiter, mostly because I’m jealous of it. I love the wolf-looking Shred Dog logo. And also, this material is almost like a soft shell except softer, and the gaiter is super warm and amazing.
At $13 (pricing until April 21)… you need to grab one of these.

I would love to win this for my 10 year old son! He would love the Duke Hardshell jacket. We are just completing a trip around the world where we were ‘chasing warmth’ and never had snow. It was an amazing experience but we missed skiing in colorado! We are so excited for next ski season already!

If I won, I’d be giving this to my nephew, Little C. He loves being out in the show so much, I’ve had to stop him from opening the back door and running out in his shorts and t-shirt. He also loves to jump in the lake as soon as the ice has melted…and I have no idea how he does it…because both the snow and lake are so darn cold! I’m a fan of the convertible bib pants for him.
