This is such exciting news for all dino lovers! The traveling exhibition SUE: The T. rex Experience is now on display at The Denver Museum of Nature & Science.  SUE is the most complete, best-preserved Tyrannosaurus rex ever discovered.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is my family’s favorite Denver attractions, and we hope we get a chance to see this!

SUE: The T. rex Experience Traveling Exhibit

SUE: The T. rex Experience actual skeleton

The traveling exhibition SUE: The T. rex Experience features the latest scientific discoveries about this incredible fossil. The exhibition tickles guests’ senses as they explore SUE’s world, touch casts of real dinosaur fossils, hear the throaty rumble of a T. rex growl, and come face to face with SUE.

SUE’s fossils are on permanent display at the Field Museum in Chicago, so the traveling exhibition gives you a chance to experience SUE through:

  • An exact cast of SUE’s skeleton, measuring in at 40 feet from snout to tail and 13 feet tall at the hip.
  • A full size, fleshed-out replica of a T. rex preying on the duck-billed herbivore, Edmontosaurus.
  • Floor-to-ceiling animations of SUE tromping through their world, encountering other animals and occasionally letting loose an intimidating growl.
  • Touchable bronze casts of SUE’s bones.
  • A multimedia light show that highlights the details of SUE’s skeleton.

Scientists are learning new things about T. rex every day, due in large part to SUE’s incredibly well-preserved bones. In this new traveling exhibition, SUE’s skeleton features all the latest scientific updates, including new “belly ribs” called gastralia that stretched across T. rex’s abdomen and helped it breathe. Therefor, they make SUE look bigger and more ferocious than ever before.

Guests who experience the exhibition in Denver will also get to see more than 20 specimens from the collections of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.  So it’s a must see for all Denver area dinosaur fans!

Sue the T. Rex History

Heard of Sue? Well, if you are the mom of a grade-school aged boy… yes, yes you have. But for anyone outside the T. rex in-the-know loop… Sue is from South Dakota, my home state!

“Sue” is the nickname given to FMNH PR 2081. She’s one of the largest and best preserved Tyrannosaurus rex specimens ever found, and is over 90 percent recovered. Discovered in the summer of 1990 by Sue Hendrickson, an explorer and fossil collector.  While searching for fossils at the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in western South Dakota, human  Sue was with a group from the Black Hills Institute when she found the impressive T. rex skeleton.
