“Tale as old as time …”  Be that as it may, of all the wonderful Disney Princesses to chose from – I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the brunette bookworm, Belle! (And I know my Disney-loving brunette sisters hear me when I say that…)

Can you believe it has been 20 years since Disney originally produced “Beauty and the Beast”?  To be honest, when we started introducing my 3 year old daughter to the classic Disney Princess films (on DVD) a few years ago, this was not one of her favorites.  And I’m pretty sure I know why – she just couldn’t get past that initial image of the frightening, crabby beast, early in the film. Now that she is 6, and can appreciate the beautiful lessons it presents in forgiveness and loving people for who they are on the inside … I am really looking forward to enjoying this together anew.  Very soon we’ll have the opportunity to take in this experience at the big theatre! “Beauty and the Beast” is returning to theatres on January 13th, 2012 – for the first time in 3D (bonus!).

Trivia Tidbits – Did you know …

  • The film was nominated for six Academy Awards®, winning Oscars® for Best Song, by the renowned Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, and Best Original Score (Menken).
  • “Beauty and the Beast” was the first animated feature to cross the $100 million plateau in its initial release.
  • Three years after the film’s debut, “Beauty and the Beast” hit Broadway. The musical opened at the Palace Theatre and ran in New York for 5,464 performances between 1994 and 2007, becoming the eighth-longest running production. It has played in 13 countries and 115 cities and continues to enchant audiences worldwide.
Here’s a taste of what you can expect in January – so vibrant!
