This was originally a post I did awhile back, when I participated in a weekly themed “Disney photos” blog hop. The week’s theme was “Castles”! And let’s face it, the centerpiece castle at each Disney park is a magical highlight. The sight that makes butterflies take flight in your chest, when you catch that vacation’s first glimpse. And I’ve always been fascinated by how the Disney Castle inspiration came form a real live castle in Germany, Neuschwanstein.
Seeing one of the real life castles that inspired Disney castles – Neuschwanstein Castle – is firmly at the top of my travel bucket list.
Disney Castle Inspiration – Neuschwanstein Castle
Quickly, if I may … a couple of shots of Schloss Neuschwanstein (Neuschwanstein Castle) in Bavaria, Germany. It is said to be the inspiration for both Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Disneyland, and one of the castles that inspired Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom.
So breathtaking. My goal is to take my own pictures of this castle one day!
Disney World Cinderella Castle
And now for it’s Disney Love Child… Cinderella Castle. Here are some of my photos that I’ve taken of my favorite Disney landmark.
What do you think of the similarities… and given the choice, which would YOU rather visit?

Love the Bavarian castle. Unfortunately I cannot find any of the ones I took … 40 years ago!
You will notice – if you check my entry – that I particularly like that angle of the WDW castle. 🙂

I could be of use on your Germany trip. “Zwei Diet Coke bitte!” See? I don’t know how you were planning on surviving without me.
Everybody seems to love this angle of Cinderella’s castle, but I didn’t see it when I was there. Guess I gotta pay more attention.

Beautiful shot of Cinderella’s castle – I love it lit up at night. I would love to see Neuschwenstein as well – great trip to plan! I’m currently planning for 2013 travel and am debating between Germany/Austria area and Ireland – either way I’ll get to see castles which is one of my favourite parts of going to Europe.

Oh so pretty! Love the castle from that angle and at night, just beautiful!
Would love to see the castle in Germany even though I don’t think it looks at all like any of the Disney castles. I’d just like to visit Germany but I’ll settle for the *other* Germany in Epcot!

I realize the inspirations are older and more practical, but Disney took the best and left the rest!! Loved your piece 😀

Beautiful night shot and a great perspective. I love Neuschwanstein Castle and Bavaria Germany! It has been on the top of my bucket list for awhile now. We’re going to Europe in a few weeks but not to here =( So close! I want to tag along with you next year too.
