Shred Dog Kids Ski Gear Review + Discount Code
We are on our second winter season of my son using Shred Dog kids gear for all our winter play in the snow. And we have nothing but good things to say about this awesome brand! Here’s an updated Shred Dog kids ski gear review featuring the exciting new offerings this year, plus a terrific 25% off discount code to use.
Shred Dog fills an interesting niche. Offering premium, high quality winter gear… for kids. I think because kids grow so fast, often times people don’t invest in the same quality of gear for their children as they do for themselves. Which personally, makes me feel a little guilty… when we’re skiing, or snowshoeing, or sledding and I’m roasty warm and dry. But my kids are not.
But Shred Dog sells direct to consumer, eliminating the middle man retail markup. This allows you to score some excellent winter gear for your kids, at “direct to you” pricing. That averages 40% less than this gear would be retail cost.

First, some things you need to know about Shred Dog.

After over 10 years of outdoor blogging and gear reviews, I can say I have not found a higher quality brand of outdoor / ski gear for my kids than Shred Dog.

The snow conditions were crappy when we went skiing a couple of days ago, but we still had ALOT of fun! We need more snow in Western Colorado. Which is also tragical. But again, I digress… 😉

Shred Dog Kids Ski Gear Review
This year’s unisex Shred Dog kids ski gear line introduced some solid, bold new colors. My son chose the “fire orange” color for his Elevated Hardshell Jacket. It’s fantastic and vibrant, and I loved being able to so easily spot him on the mountain.
Elevated Hardshell Jacket
The Shred Dog Elevated Hardshell jacket is soft and pliable, while still offering ultimate weather protection. It’s PERFECT for skiing or snowboarding… but is also a highly versatile piece that can be worn even in Spring/Fall. It will protect from any weather changing conditions, and it’s completely waterproof so will work great when kids need to stay dry or just take that chill off.
This jacket is uninsulated. So for winter, you can add one of the insulation jackets below which intergrate and zip into the Elevated Hardshell. The seams are fully taped, and it’s fully waterproof yet still breathable with built in pit zips. This jacket includes Adjust-a-Fitâ„¢ sleeves, which will lengthen AND shorten for a perfect fit and room to grow.
The Elevated Hardshell is a nice long length, with a drop back hem and hideaway powderskirt. My son likes the secure seal at the wrists, which keeps out snow. There are reflective details, and lots of awesome, well placed zipper pockets.
I’d say this runs true to size. My son is tall, so in his case it would be nice if the sleeves were a touch longer, to allow more room for growth. He’s 10 years old, and typically wears size 10. We ordered a size 12 Elevated Hardshell jacket, and the sleeves are a perfect length on him right now… no need to adjust up.
Elevated Kids Bib / Pant
Yes, these are convertable! The Shred Dog Elevated Kids Bib can have the top portion unzipped, converting them to ski pants if desired. Another top notch piece of kids ski gear, these are the best snow bibs or pants my son has ever owned.
Here’s another scenario where you’ll find awesome features you’d never typically have in kids gear. The Elevated Kids Bib use a cozy 60 grams of 3Mâ„¢ Thinsulateâ„¢ insulation and are waterproof, fully seam-taped, and breathable. But they also include zippered thigh vents, reinforced knees with a crazy durable fabric, back stretch panel, inner snow gaiters with gripper elastic, and Adjust-a-Fitâ„¢ pantlegs that lengthen and shorten.
For sizing, pantleg length is great – nice and generous. By the time he stuffs his sweatshirt in, the fit seems athletic/lean to me. This works great for us, but my son is pretty slender. There are adjustable velcro tabs at the waist, which helps.
Ok, so in this case… my son’s gear is BETTER than mine. I’m jealous of these bibs!
Element Kids Insulator
The Element Kids Insulator is probably our top pick for an insulation layer to purchase to wear under the Elevated Hardshell jacket. It zips in to the hardshell, and the jacket is easy to slide on. (Although he also has used the Essential Fleece Mid-Layer under his hardshell, and likes the coziness of that.)
It’s got 3Mâ„¢ Thinsulateâ„¢ insulation, body mapped to be thicker in the core, and a DWR (durable water repellency) finish, which makes it ideal for active, outdoor kiddos! And again, you’ll get the Adjust-a-Fitâ„¢ sleeves which can lengthen and shorten… so it should last a couple of years, fit wise.
My son often wears his Element Kids Insulator by itself, and it’s his go-to jacket. It’s really comfortable, and seems to adjust well and breathe in varying temperatures. I say this because he keeps it on even when he comes inside! And he extra-likes the inside secret stash pocket.
I agree with the website’s recommendation on sizing. Order up a size, for a more generous fit and room to grow.
Essential Kids Mid-Layer
An exciting new addition to Shred Dog this year! The Essential Kids Mid-Layer is a thick, fantastic quality, performance fleece jacket. This one’s hard to beat for comfort. It features deep zippered pockets and a smooth jersey knit face. It’s an excellent 3-season piece that can be worn almost year round.
Fit is relaxed and true to size.
Foundation Kids Base Layer Bottom
Another amazing new addition to Shred Dog in this season’s lineup: Foundation Kids Base Layer Bottom is the base layer your child NEEDS. These suckers are worth every penny of the $30 price tag, and are so comfortable they will want to not only wear them every time they ski… but also lounge and sleep in them!
The Foundation base layer bottom is thick, soft, and comfortable with reflective details. (Which I discovered when trying to take a photo of them, with a flash – lol.)
My son absolutely loves these, and really needed something just like this. For some reason, I’d buy him longjohns and he’d refuse to wear them. Not so with these, trying them on once was all it took!
He wore just this Shred Dog Foundation base layer bottom under the Elevated Bibs while skiing on a 20 degree day, and stayed warm.
Runs true to size. We sized up, and they fit now generously… plus will also work for him next year.
