Spyder is a Colorado based outdoor gear brand, with a solid reputation for quality items. SPYDER Syrround Down Jacket – Fit and Features

This is a great looking jacket, and incredibly comfortable.  The fit is true to size, and also roomy enough to wear a winter warmth layer (like fleece or sweater) underneath.  I love that it was roomy through the shoulders, too.  Often I find jackets my size are a little tight through the shoulders, but not so with the Syrround Down.

The smooth interior allows easy glide-on, no matter what you are wearing.  And in my opinion… you just can’t beat the cozy warmth of down.  The Syrround Down is 600 fill duck down, and I’ve never been cold when wearing it this winter.  And we’ve had single digit temps!

The back has a flattering gathered feature at the waist, giving this much prettier, more feminine shape than just a boxy down jacket.  The shiny silver “Metaluxe®” zipper (it even has a fancy name) adds pizzazz and adds a classy look.

My only complaint is that the sleeves are a bit short on me.  I am 5’10”, so this is an issue I occasionally have with clothing.  My guess is that the sleeve length would work just fine for most women.

As a heads-up side note, the Sypder website description currently says “all-way stretch jersey knit side panels”.  That’s an error, and is actually a description of a different Spyder jacket.  The Syrround is all down… and all lovely!

Performance When Skiing

Although the description claims the Syrround Down Jacket is made from “waterproof Spylon DWR”… I was nervous on the day I hit the slopes.  It was one of those 32 degrees and heavy snowing days when we recently skied Sunlight Mountain Resort.

Super fun.

But super wet.

I always ski with an outer technical shell.  Although I love the warmth of down, I don’t really it trust it in conditions like this, when you need technical performance to keep you dry all day.

So as we got closer and closer to the ski resort, I got more and more anxious.  How could I have put all my eggs in one basket like this?  Why didn’t I at least bring a dry, backup coat…?!

Alas, I had no need to worry.  The Sypder Syrround Down Jacket pulled through with shining colors! I was astounded.  I tried to capture a photo of just how much moisture was on the outside of my jacket.

Yet the down and inside stayed dry, and I was warm all day.  Woo hoo!  You heard it here, folks.  I will officially vouch for the Syrround Down Jacket in cold, wet conditions.
